Before I was a teenager, I was drawn to drum and bugle. The color guards of the military, the music of the bag pipes, or a regular marching band were all there during the years when I was growing up. A little later I was really attracted to the drum and bugle corps that were in my area. Bands like the St. Vincent's Cadets, The Bayonne Bridgemen, Audobon Bon Bon's All Girl Marching Band, the Hawthorne Caballero's, the Skyliners, and on and on. All of these hugely successful and entertaining groups comprised of KIDS, generally not older than about 19 years old. Then they broke into Senior Corps and Junior Corps, and spread across the entire country. Madison Scouts, Blue Devils, etc, etc.
I think that was the stuff that brought me to the military in the first place, the incredible precision, the discipline, the attention to details and the improvisation. I wasnt good enough to perform, but I was good enough to follow them and show my support.
I hope you enjoy this presentation from a few years ago, and I'll add a few more of the most notable, with your permission.

Imagine Obama doing this with sincerity? ? Unless he is serving his narcissistic personality, or gaining political points then, no. I can't. What is the story behind that photo? I can see other Wounded Warriors in the photo. Was it some sort of appreciation event? Possibly a good old Texas barbecue. Probably why there wasn't a whole lot of main stream press for the event. #1. President Bush was there. #2. Wounded soldiers were there. Of course President Bush has NEVER been one to toot his own horn so to speak. A true quiet professional. Thanks for posting. (She's pretty hot BTW! ) Oh yea, glad to hear his dad -- the other President Bush -- is doing better.

In my lifetime we have had some really bad presidents, some mediocre presidents, some kinda good presidents and one great president.
Mr. Reagan, of course, was the great one.
I won't take the time to look at all of them, but there are only two, yes two, who are/were really decent human beings.
Mr. Reagan and Mr. George W. Bush.
Yes, Mr. G.H.W. Bush is a pretty good man, but doesn't approach his son.
W wasn't the greatest president we ever had, and far from the worst.
He is just flat-out, a decent man.
When he spoke at the National Cathedral during the 9/11 memorial service, he brought me to tears.
He, like Reagan, is a man of compassion, who loves people.
And, he truly loves the men and women in the Armed Forces and their families.
As a Texas ANG F-102 pilot, he is one of us.
If you are able to watch Rangers games, he often is seated with Nolan Ryan in the seats behind Home Plate, along with their wives.
The Ryans and the Bushes are old and close friends.
Mr. Bush has security people around him, but he ignores them and is not hard to approach.
He does more things, like in the picture, than anyone realizes.
Not because he has to, but because he wants to.
I hope it stays that way.
I would hate to see the media exploit their decency for ratings.
That said, NO, I don't agree with everything he did, while in office, nor things he helped along.
He did some things that I don't like at all.
But, I like the man, and would not hesitate to shake his hand.
With the current office holder, I would walk away.

President Bush and his wife Laura also met many soldiers returning from Iraq at the Dallas airport (After leaving office). He refused to make it a "Media event", it was just their way of thanking the troops for their service. I think the program has ended now. I agree with Jim's assessment of Presidents. I met President Bush when he was running for office. He came to WPAFB area with Gen Collin Powell (whom I have lost favor for), Gen Stormin Norman, Ohio's Gov and himself. He stayed afterwards and shoke every hand waiting and said some small talk as he greeted us. He wasn't a GREAT President, but he was the right man for the job at the time. He brought Unity to America in a time of need.
