I recall seeing a photo of a Six with an AGM-78 Standard ARM slung off the starboard pylon in a captive-carry trial, I think it was here, and the subject just came up on another aircraft forum. Any of you guys have anything about that test that I can pass along?
Thanks in advance, on behalf of my boardmates. :green-beer

I think they used the same launcher for the XAIM-97 Seekbat missile trials, also based on an AGM-78 airframe.

F-106A 58-0795 (one of the Six Shooter prototypes) was used for the tests in Project Spike & the XAIM-97A Seekbat project. There is a mention of the projects in the F-106's Wings of Fame edition (page 64). There are a two pictures of 795s with the XAIM-97 on that page, the same pixs are on 795's page (Erv's old site) Here she is with the missile on wing ........ Attachments:

Thanks for the elaboration, SOC and Ernie. Part of me is tempted to link this thread over in the other one, but I'm reluctant in light of what happened the LAST time somebody "followed me home"...
Yes, Robyn the Troll discovering this place was MY fault, and the entire community has my apologies for it.

795 was the prime "Test" six during my 4 years at Tyndall. It had more extra wires than any bird. I got to work on it many times and you never used wiring diagram for troubleshooting. They had an entire library of chages that were made to 795. I remember working on a mod to MA-1 that allowed additional IR Track while Radar scan and also IR Track/Radar Track. We also put a manual boresight of Radar/IR units so when dogfighting the radar would provide range input since it was pointed same place as gun and IR Head would provide IR detection tone. It left Tyndall for several months while getting Gun. But we had various gun mods prior to selection of Bay. We had body molded pieces under each wingroot for dual guns at one time. But that didn't get selected. We also tried various Optical Sights prior to gun. Old 069 unit was simply a boresighted telescope. We tried lead computing optical sights from several aircraft before selecting the one used on six-shooter. I don't remember where it originated, but it was a bitch to wire in and get data to/from it. We had lots of Convair/Hughes engineers doing design while we did the installation.
