One of newest members, adcfan, who joined late Sep but hasn't posted yet sent me a nice email about the site that included a question I can't answer... why don't I have the 21 AD listed on the list along with the other AD's? : I believe the 49th for one, was in the 21st AD wasn't it? During the F-106 period? Thoughts? :confused :confused Did I just miss it?

The 21st was at McGuire and shared some facilities with 539th FIS. Our dorms were side by side and overflow from 539th went into 21st AD Dorms. The SAGE building hosted most of 21st personnel. We also had a BOMARC Missle Group in same dorms. The SAGE Center and 539th F-106's were both first Units of kind.
Our BOMARC site was the only one to have a fire and Nuke destroyed and it still glows in the dark.

I remember the 21st Air Division at Hancock Field, New York, in the late 1960s. I left the 94 FIS in 1969 and joined the Michigan Air Guard. In 1973 we converted to the F-106 out of the 2FIS at Wurtsmith AFB and became the 171 FIS "Six Pack" Remember seeing Gen Price's F-106, 59-0021 as he came to Selfridge. I have a vinyl seat back cover from the Selfridge mess hall with the 21st Air Division emblem.

This seems to be a miss to me, but I wasn't there. I do have pretty good research (read: "Googling") skills so I've found a few items. This is from the Hancock Field, NY directory and guide from 1979 via www.radomes.org. They specifically include the 49th FIS, and even have a photo of a Six, though you can't see any markings on it. www.radomes.org/museum/data/newsletters/HancockFieldNY9.jpgThe entire guide can be found here... www.radomes.org/museum/documents/HancockFieldNY.htmlHere's a small scan hacked off the internet of the actual patch. There is a larger one on the radomes.org museum page, but it is cropped, and not quite as nice. ( MOW: This one below is pretty good -- as well as very readable -- so it may fit in with your others on the home page until I find a better version of the actual patch.) My next mission is to find one for my collection. As usual, I'll bet they show up now-and-then. Just none I can find "now." Many thanks to "adcfan" for bringing this up! :welcome and :thanks

The 57th FIS in Iceland was under 21AD. I think the 21AD went to MAC and Pope C-130s were under 21st.
