Gentleman,
I’m writing to you because I would like to ask for help regarding my professional research. First of all let me introduce myself and describe my problem. My name is Mátyás Palik, I’m an officer cadet in the 5th Cadet Company of the Hungarian Defence Forces Ludovika Batallion. I have been studying military-and safety engineering in the National University of Public Service for 2 years, but in this academic year I’ve specialized to military ATC. If everithing goes well I will graduate as an intercept controller in 2014.
One year ago I’ve made some researches about Cold War era automated air defense systems and I took part in a scientific competition which was organized by our university. The tittle of my dissertation was “The means and methods of the automated fighter control”. I won the second place with this essay, and after the challenge, I’ve decided to do more research and improve this topic, from another point of view. In the first study, I wrote about the fighter aircraft’s automated intercept methods and techniques with historical and technological aspects (only about old Soviet systems). I discussed the various systems in chronological order, review their functions, tasks and the work they carried out in combat, by the process of managing intercept controller’s perspective. I talked over the tactical and technical characteristics of the complexes, and compare the execution of workflows by the tactical possibilities of the equipment. I looked for the answers to those questions, how these systems helped in the implementation of air command and control processes through the stages of technological progresses.
In this academic year, I want to make a comparison between the Soviet/ Warsaw Pact and the NATO (NORAD and European) systems. I think it’s a very interisting topic and I’ve never read about something same before, but it’s going to be a huge work. Fortunatelly, I possess large amount of original documents of the Eastern systems, like manuals and monographs, because my country have operated these systems for a long period. But the biggest problem is, I don’t have enough information about the Westerns systems. Despite large and long searching work, I haven’t found any adequate resources in the Internet. Yes, I know there are a lot of pages in connection with these topics but they can’t provide sufficient information for such a big research.
My basic intention is to examine the automated air defense systems from the intercept control point of view. But for this work I need a lot of sources. My "B" plan is to write about the comparasion of air defense systems from a wider aspect, for example SAM control and radar data flow etc. I would make a contrast between "East" and "West", how useful were these systems and how did they help the human operators in the air defense combat work. But it's very important from the view of the automated systems, and mainly the command and control work, for example in the HQs and AD centers. I mean that I don't want to compare the features and characteristics of weapons (like Nike vs. SA-2, or F-106 vs MiG-21), and also I don't need technical descriptions, only operational manuals.
The deltadart.com is a very serious compilation of the aircraft, but I've found informations about the intercept control systems in only one page. I found the basics, but it's not enough for a 60-70 pages long essay.
After I’ve found this site and forum in the Internet I’ve decided to write to you and ask some help for my work. Please, if you have any original documents in electronic formats, send me if it’s possible, I would be very grateful. Of course if I do my job well, I will translate the new study and send you in English. If this topic too far from your interest and profession please send some adress where I can find more help. Thank you in advance for your help and your time! :thanks
