To-day was a very nice day.
De and I had a good night sleep in a family suite at Ellsworth.
We drove to Mt. Rushmore this morning and really enjoyed our time at the Monument.
Every time we have been there, and many times during our visit, the view of the faces changes.
If you have not had the pleasure of visiting Mt. Rushmore, it is something that should be on your bucket list.
The changes take place as the sun light changes or when clouds roll in, as they did around noon.
I am always inspired when I visit.
It has nothing to do with the politics of any of the four heads, but with the magnificence of the sculpture and the reasons behind them.
I visited with a man who was a worker on the monument.
He is 92, and comes to the gift shop 4 days a week, to talk to people, have his picture taken with them, and autograph books when you buy them.
I talked to him last visit and bought his book.
The book is a good story about the making of the Monument.
From the Monument we drove to Crazy Horse Mountain.
We didn't have to pay, as we were only going to the gift shop.
We took several pictures of the Crazy Horse Monument, or as much of it as there is.
It will be many years before it is completed, as the family doing the statue refuse to accept government money.
They don't want the strings that are attached.
O.K., it is going to be a magnificent statue, or rock carving done by blasting rock.
It will be 600+ feet tall and three dimensional.
However, why people pay $10 each, just to walk around the grounds and look at models and get closer to the statue, is beyond me.
Yeah, I am cheap, but willing to pay $11 to park at Mt. Rushmore, because there is something there.
No, I'm not anti Indian, though I don't like the term "Native American", as the PC crowd uses it.
I am a "Native American".
Anyone legally born here is a "Native American".
After we got back to Ellsworth, we were driving to our quarters, when a bugle was sounding over the car radio.
Put a window down, pulled to a stop and listened to our National Anthem.
A car coming from behind us, probably didn't hear it, as they didn't stop until they were right behind us.
The car was filled with young people.
So, guess the noise from inside was too loud.
Then this evening we heard two B-Ones take-off.
First time I have heard two go out on the same evening.
The burners on that big dude don't crack and split the air, like the J-75 on the Six, but a very satisfactory roar from 4 burners going at one time. :fire_missle_ani
Beautiful music to my old ears.
Hope the rest of you had as memorable a day as my bride and I.

That's pretty neat Jim Too.
My family went to Mt. Rushmore a few years ago without me.
I was deployed to the desert, and I recall my youngest daughter thought I was "going on vacation" by myself at the time. Figured she could go somewhere too!
(Now, some of those TDY's were very "vacation-like", but the trips to the desert definitely were NOT!)
Someday, I'll get up there.

Sounds like your trip is going well, hope you have a good one & a safe return. Jim, do you or anyone else know if it is possible to get a flyover of a B-52. Maybe do some checking at the Minot base or get the number of a contact person. Also can anyone stay at the motel on a base or how does that work?
Once more enjoy your days. Soybean harvest is starting to get into full swing. Thankyou - Walter & Peggy :thanks :salute :us_flag :patriotic-flagwaver :god_bless_usa
