Has anyone read about the DOD contemplating disbanding the Air force? Some of the big wig generals think that maybe the air force no longer has a place in todays military. They say it could and should be merged into the other services. What do you guys think about it? there is a pretty good piece on military.com about it. biendhoa. ;D ;D ;D

They say they want to merge with the other services ;D We were merged until 1948 when we became the AIR FORCE, now they want to put us back I really can't see the government "saving" that much money by merging the Air Force into the other services. I would sign the petition a thousand time NOT to merge. Congress the the powers that be WILL here an ear full about disbanding the AIR FORCE I say STOP the BULL$HIT

Welll now!!!! I would say that it's about time!!!!! As for disbanding the Air Force, from my perspective here at Lackland, it would appear that it has allready happened! Here at Lackland, the general consensus is that the new "Security Force" is the "END ALL" to the Air Force that we all once knew. The OLD Air FOrce motto of "To Fly and Fight" seems to have given way to the new motto of "It Ain't MY job" and to climb over anyone you can, because the promotion justifies the means to get there. I say this because of the present work ethics I see. Seems to me that everyone here at Lackland is all about "Security Forces". If it has a tail and it wags or a gun that goes bang, then thats good, if it doesn't have a tail or a gun, then it can slowly die away. You have just hit upon a subject that is very volitile here at the Air Force "Gateway"! I would take the stand the the Air Force is NOW behind the active curve of frontline importance, and should probably be disbanded. There are so many present day memebers that seem to have the idea that they are all Air Force versions of a new model G.I. Joe. THe latest change in uniform and rank insignia points towards the melding of the present day Air Force into a flying version of a combination ARMY and MARINE unit. SO, WHY NOT! I am merely an old retiree whom no one will listen to anymore. I fear that most us us are in the same position. Who wants to listen about "What we once had was------" and "WE used to ------" and God forbid even open a history book to see the gains and improvements that havce been directly attributed to us "OLD GUYS!" Now that I have rambled on enough to get the hairs rankled on some of you "Old guys" (I count myself as one!) there is one thing we can all do. When we all pulled together to get a Six from D.M and take it all the way to Sawyer and rebuilt it we acted as one. If WE all act as one and contact our elected representatives, then this might just not happen. At least not right away! I would be more apt to say meld the Army into the Air Force and make the Air Force bigger! Heck why not meld the Marines, Coast guard and Navy as well! I can see it now, issue a patch for each branch and have ONE uniform! Oh well, Hope you all set your clocks ahead for daylight savings!Or was that BACK??? I'm due for another cup of coffee. A beer for ya all! MArv

You talk about Air Force guys with Army uniforms carrying guns, who do you think is augmenting the Army in Iraq in more ways than one? And who is it that keeps getting them out of ambushes with well placed munitions? It's all about getting a bigger share of the funding pie. None of them outside the Air Force understand laying eggs with a B52, a B1, or a B2!!!!!! Put a sock in the guy's mouth that started this one!!!!    Lee Nellist

To Mr. Robert Farley: ;D wrap your rectum around a gernade Genie, hook it up to power and pull the pin lanyards. Sorry guys, the gernade was Army thinking - the Genie is Air Force thinking!

Congress doesn't need any help to make bad decisions, they've got plenty of experience. They've been excelling at it for over 40 years, on both sides of the aisles.
