I find it amusing that they have cleaned up all these static display aircraft. I guess it makes it safer for civilians. The pitot boom is gone, the angle of attack transducer, several antenna from bottom etc. I guess we were allowed to crack our heads in line of duty. The angle of attack vane used to catch me as I would go up to open Radar compartment.

Never had an issue with the AOA. (Probably too short.) My nemisis was those #@&$ TACAN stub attennas up front. Wish I had a nickle for everytime I caught one in the middle of my back when I ducked under to go from the radar to the computer side.

Forgot there was already a thread for 59145. Got this from a facebook page. Done a few years ago. Hideous paintjob, I think it was done in Air Combat Command colors. Judging by Mark's pics, I'd say someone schooled them on what a six is supposed to look like!

there's an F-4 in the background sporting the same non-colors. I guess they were the GHOST SQUADRON

Whoever painted the F-4 has 1. either never seen one, or a picture of one in SEA paint, or 2. was not interested in authenticity. The colours look about right, but the pattern is, well, ??. Jim Too :god_bless_usa

Mark, I know, I'm being picky.
The random curves and colour changes are what made the original look better.
I am happy that someone at least attempted to make the Phantom look authentic, for the Air Force.
I have no objection to an F-4 that is painted gray, as long as it is a Navy bird.
I'm not sure how much time the volunteers at air museums have to research, then take the time to do the job as if it was right out of the factory, but don't imagine it is extensive.
I know at the Dakota Territory Air Museum, they have a P-40, that has been in restoration for several years, and will be for more.
It is only worked on in the months the museum is closed, and then by mostly volunteers, some of whom are active duty Air Force, retired Air Force and civilian workers from the base.
It will be done, when it gets done.
The intent is to make if flyable, even though it probably will never fly.
The P-40 is complete, but the parts are not all put together.
It will have a Flying Tiger paint scheme, from 1st AVG.
Now, the important question:
Are you out of Blue Bell?

They probably use photographs, maybe an old copy of T.O. 1-1-4, and the cheapest paint, and labor (volunteers) they can find. That's how we did it at Dyess when I helped repaint the C-47 a few years ago. If they had an unlimited budget, and a real anal-retentive researcher (like me!) I would make that Phantom look like it just came from the paint shop with all the accurate stencils to boot!! Out of ice cream! Today was my day off, but I went in for a little bit anyway. Ya never know!

I have no objection to an F-4 that is painted gray, as long as it is a Navy bird. I don't mind seeing USAF Phantoms in ADC gray as long as they are painted correctly. Check out the images of 63-7589 for example. It started as a TAC bird, then ended up as an ADC bird with several squadrons. Just click on this link for several images of her, many in ADC gray with ADWC, Michigan ANG, and Texas ANG markings. Even the camo markings from Vietnam, and both markings from the 57th FIS in Iceland. www.petemuseum.org/F4C637589Lineage.html(Recognize Erv's hand in this page?) Technically this is 64-0799, and they explain the repaint of it here... www.petemuseum.org/f4c.htmlAnyway, this is the only way I like to see Phantoms painted gray, as I am a big fan of the SEA camo scheme too.

I haven't seen any problems with this board either, has anyone else other than Jim and Gene? MOW I got the error massage right after you posted this when I tried to access the last post (yours) from the home page forum.f-106deltadart.com/I then went into into the Museum page thread index forum.f-106deltadart.com/index.cgi?board=displaysand clicked last post (yours) and it took me right to your post with no problem. It seems like there is a timing delay between when the Last Post URLs are applied to the index.cgi?board=displays page and the home page. I'll try again later and if yours is still the last post on the 59-0145 I'll see if I still get the error message. Thanks, Pat P.

If I just posted this message to the same thread, I would be the last post and your wouldn't. DUH Well, I did the test anyway and mine as the last post got an error message from the Home page. Pat P.

Everything is working fine on my end; forum-wise anyway. Just to add some aircraft back to this thread, here are pics of the Sabre Dog, and the Eagle in the same park as the Six at Tyndall...

Small world, I was the MA1 toad assigned to 145 during William Tell that year. Best TDY I ever had with the 48th.
