This evening Turner Classic Movies was dedicated to "feel good", "flag waving" movies.
I watched "Yankee Doodle Dandy".
I don't know how many times I have seen this movie since it came out in 1942, but I have enjoyed it every time.
It is the story, somewhat fictionalized, of the life of George M. Cohan, and starred James Cagney as Cohan.
All but one song, the last one, were written by Cohan, and performed magnificently by Cagney.
Lots of patriotic songs, like: "It's a Grand Old Flag", and "Over There".
I always feel uplifted after watching Cagney light up the screen, as George M. Cohan.
I hope some of you got a chance to watch the movie, and enjoyed it as much as I did.
I really miss that genre of movie.
Too bad the only place I can see them is on TV, or buy a DVD.
But, I'm thankful I can still see them.
I hope all of you had a great day, and were able to celebrate who we are, as individuals and as a nation.
Jim Too

Some will say that this movie glorifies killing, some will say it is a movie about a coward, some will say that it is a depiction of what some say a patriot is, some will say that it is about how weak the generation we have now between the ages of 17 to maybe 25 and their battle with PTSD, a PC name for the old WW2 battle fatigue or shell shock....... With the exception of that FAT SLOP of an IDIOT Michael Moore's view, I find it to be all of this, and even more..... Looking at the young of today, and listening to them talk, I notice a tremendous difference in vocabulary... In 25 plus years in the AF, I don't remember ever hearing any officer, from a jeep 2nd Lt to a full Colonel issue an order using the F word once in a sentence- let alone 4-5 times, nor did I ever hear it from any of the older NCOs in any job related discussions. But it was almost as common among the younger troops as "Ya know" was......Its use is so common, it is now used to describe just about anything animate or inanimate any place- even in the check out line at Wal-Mart..... Block out the use of the F word and the GD (spoken out) use and you will see a very strong thought provoking movie that brings the reality of one man and his attitude into sharp focus..... A boozing, carousing, bimbo chasing young cowboy affected by a news broadcast on television, so much so that he enlists??? Shades of the days after Pearl Harbor, never to be duplicated in this century....... Oh, by the way the movie is "American Sniper"....
