Started waxing the Six today. Exposure to the elements is producing an uncharacteristic dull finish. By the time our Aug Airshow arrives, I should have her in ADC trim again. I am in the blue shirt; assisted by an active duty AF crewchief who is on leave. We both had a great time. I should add that my fabricated arresting hook is in the paintshop awaiting a red finish. Being a previous Director/Administrator of a Base Air museum I know how important the volunteers are. Thank-you for the work you do on these old birds. :salute :thanks Attachments:

The Six looks great. There is something special about the way the Six was painted. It was striking, yet subdued. When the sun hit the paint, it glowed. I really miss seeing military airplanes with either a paint job like the Six and Deuce, or aluminum skin, like so many others. Whoever came up with the camouflage paint schemes for Air Force airplanes is, well, ?? Shiny aluminum or shiny gray paint, they both look great. Thanks, Shadowgunner for all the hard work you have put in on the Six, and the rest of the collection. Thanks, also, to the AD man who was assisting you. He is someone I would like to work with. Shadowgunner, The old girl looks great. Did you guys shoot clear coat on it as a final paint coat? Ralph and the boys at CAM did some expensive clear coat on their Six and she is still looking fresh after 9 years in the hot Valley sun with the occasional sand/dust storms. Ralph has turned over the crew chief duties to his son Dean who gives her a sponge bath every quarter. It's surprizing how much bird poop can etch the finish of the plain old military paint jobs versus how durable the clear coat can be especially with ultra violet light from the sun. Pat P. Here's a picture of Dean and his baby taken last May 27th at Open Cockpit Day Attachments:

Shadowgunner, The old girl looks great. Did you guys shoot clear coat on it as a final paint coat? Pat; Yes, when the museum repainted her for the dedication, '04 I think, they used a top quality aircraft paint and clear coat. Not sure if it was Imron; but it was top notch nonetheless. I am using a 3M liquid polish that is clearcoat safe.
