I may be a little off here, but I think the story goes they commissioned six frigate class ships to go after the Barbary pirates of which I know of two that survived: Constitution in Boston and the Constellation in Baltimore. The tragic part of that story is right after they had "won" against the pirates, Congress voted to decommission the ships. They got them 'mothballed" just in time for the War of 1812. : And thus began a trend that continues to this day.

: :happybday : Well, Lindel, you hit the big FIVE ZERO to-day. Ignore the black crepe paper and the other things to make you feel old. Remember, age is a state of mind. The older you get the less stable the state of mind gets, and you won't care how old you are. So enjoy this special day with a good steak dinner and follow it up with some cake and ice cream. Happy Birthday Jim Scanlon :god_bless_usa

Gene, the reason you see so many "old" guys driving Vettes is very simple. They are probably the only ones who can afford to buy them. Unless you are pretty healthy in the wallet, they are out of range for most.
Jim, who drives an Impala.

:salute Thank you to all of you for your birthday greetings. Seems hard to believe that I am so old. Well, my body is, but I'm still a kid at heart. Just wish the body would cooperate with my mind. Certainly never thought back when I enlisted at 17, that I would make it this far. Been a fabulous journey so far, and looking forward to what the Lord has in store for me in the time He gives me here on Earth. God bless you all. :god_bless_usa Jim Too (Jim the Younger)
