Not sure of in the voracity of this story. While stationed at Phan Rang (1969), I flew in a Spl Ops Unit. Down on main-base we had the 35th TFW flying sleds (f-100s).
Story goes that there was a Wing CO change and the new WCO did his introductory inspection drive along the flightline. He was appalled and outraged about all the varied nose art on his F-100s. He promptly issued an edict that from now on all aircraft nose art will be standardized!
A few days later he conducted a followup inspection tour to confirm compliance. He was duly rewarded with ALL of the Wings' F-100s stenciled with the word "STANDARDIZED" on their noses.
I understand the edict had been retracted with no further discussions on the topic of nose art.
once again proving, don't mess with flightline troops and be careful what you order!.

If it ain't true it should be, the AF at that time was populated with cols that really weren't qualified to be aide-de-camp to a brand new 2nd lt.... The Old Sarge

We had a Lt. Col. Fred V. Napoleon as the 355th Munitions Maint. Sq. CO. He was a waste of good air. He was a reserve officer that had NEVER commanded troops before. One of his infamous tales was that a pylon had been downloaded and delivered to the shop after flight. Everybody had signed off the eject cart removal (didn't happen). The signed-off 3 level checked the cart circuit with a PSM-6 and blow the cart slug into his leg, breaking it in three places. That was the only time that year that an airman was med-evaced out of Takhli. The Col. TRIED to court martial the 3 levels supervisor (the Col. didn't like the guy). He was laughed out (literally) of the court martial. He was a total a$$. That was just one of his stupid acts. Thank the lord for honor and integrity in the NCO ranks. The jobs got done despite him.
