Been looking at pics of 539 FIS Sixes when they used the latter lightning bolt markings and noticed some have a small red flash at the base of the rudder and some have a yellow flash. This seems to be before the star was put there on all of them. My guess is this was a flight designation/marking. My questions are: 1) Am I correct? 2) Were there any other colors? 3) What color was assigned to what flight?

Any other info would be great as well! (Like, why did they change to the lightning bolt? When did they replace the color markings with the star? Stuff like that.)
