KILROY WHENINHELL DID THE AF REINSTITUTE THE WO PROGAM? ?? The last I knew, the last AF W.O. received his WARRANT in 1958- the year that CMSgt came into existence-----BTW the test that the first SMSgts took was the W.O. test--the same one they wouldn't take !!!!!!!!! The finest man I ever worked for and with, was a rarity, both in character and rank-he was a CWO-5....Some of you may have been fortunate to have known him- John H. Johnston . I was associated with him for the 7 years we were in the 27thFIS..Warrant Officers, whether it is the Army, Coast Guard, or the Marines are as their title implies-Warranted Officers-......By the way any of you old farts have a warrant for SSgt?

I know .The airforce is the only service that did away with warrant officers, thats what brought up the subject. One of the coffee sippers said he had a grandson in the army and that after they make W2 they become commissioned. I said i dont think so and thats when the big turd hit the fan everyone at the counter started in they are and they ain`t. Heck i still dont know! KILROY

Hey Kilroy, Yes. WO get commissioned when they make CW2. Check out this web site - leav-www.army.mil/wocc/whatiswo.htmThe USAF tossed around the idea of bringing Warrants back a couple years ago and I think it would be a good idea. I think the E-8s and E-9s ganged up and killed the idea. Must be worried about job security. They say they are the subject matter experts but I'll be damned if I ever see any out on the line showing us the ropes. They are all administrators. It's the Staffs and Techs out there making things happen. My idea is get some Warrants who don't have to deal with the admin BS and concentrate on maintenance. Just my two cents but I have first hand experience dealing with the Army Warrants and know it works. Mark

Dont know where the I disagree came from it was worked my a$$ off. KILROY :-[Can't leave this one alone!!!!!!!!Gota pitchur ina profile :)LMAO.......If WOs were to come from todays resources- would suggest they be drawn from the techs and jr masters and let the e8.9 program die the death it probabley deserves. This comment based on MArv's comment in another topic.....I still get violently pi$$ed when I remember that 2 mos tig shafted me out of an opportunity at warrant %$#*&^%#*&^%.....YES, there WERE and no doubt, STILL ARE SMSgt and Cmsgt that would be outstanding as warrants......You can blame the techs and masters of '54 -56 for not applying for warrant.....Lets have a beer out n the green bottle

Ref: WO for Tech and Masters 54 to 56. Techs were not eligible for WO. Was a Tech at that time and refused the test because I was not a MSGT.

We had a CWO2 at Griffiss in 56 that told me he was made a warrant without having been a msgt.....He was either weapons or fire control. It was this that I based my statement on...........Too bad techs couldn't become wo-----They might have weeded out the ROAD msgts
