Mark welcome to the ranks of the "ol sarge" KILROY Kilroy I be agreen with ye, MARK135 BE A HAVIN A RIGHT TO BE CALLED "OLD SARGE" ME BE A THINKIN THIS SOUNDS LIKE MARK WILLIAMS.......STRANGE ABOUT THAT BADGE---IN '71 THERE WERE 8 OF US TOP 3 AT WILLIE TRIED TO INTEREST THE AF IN SOMETHING SIMILAR, USING THE ARGUMENT THAT WITHOUT MAINT PEOPLE, MOST A/C WERE "ONE TIME" FLIGHTS...THEY COUNTERED WITH "HOW ABOUT ALL THE OTHER PEOPLE?" WE COUNTERED-"WITHOUT MAINT PEOPLE , THERE WON'T BE A NEED FOR THE OTHERS - THE AF'S MISSION IS (WAS?) TO FLY AIRPLANES. STRANGE, IT USE TO TAKE AROUND 2000 HRS FOR AN AIRCREWMAN TO GET A STAR ON HIS WINGS, AND I DON'T RECALL EVER SEEING A WREATH AROUND THE STAR ON ANYBODY(ENLISTED). OUR IDEA WAS TO REQUIRE A 5 LEVEL TO GET THE BADGE........OH WELL, TOO MUCH TOO SOON I GUESS... ;D

Hey Kilroy, yep that was me who posted the one about the maint badges. Started reading and didn't log in last night!
Funny you all mentioned the idea about waiting for your 5-level to get the badge. I know alot of kids who were told that by their instructors at tech school but the regs say they can wear the basic badge as soon as they get their diploma! Current regs also say it's not required to wear the badge however. Only aeronautical (pilot, nav, enlisted aircrew, parachutist, etc) and Chaplain insignia is required to be worn. I only know a few guys above Staff that don't wear it however.
Having fun in the Indian Ocean (for a few more weeks anyway!)

Had to reply on the "Old brogans"!. The ONLY pair of them type of brogans that I EVER saw with a shine to them was worn by a SSGT that was in charge of a supply warehouse that I had been assigned to do a detail in, when I was still in basic training. This guy took a fresh can of Black Lacquer spray paint and painted his brogans every day! Honest! The paint on them was so thick you could tell the layers! When he sprayed them, they really looked great for awhile! Then he would do it again later and even several more times throughout the day. I thought it was really funny to see him do this! But he had most of the other people there fooled! They looked good every time he went into some's office for anything! MArv
