FORUM TIPSThe ProBoards Help menu on the tool bar above or here help.proboards.com/index.htmlhas a limited menu divided into 4 sections: Getting Started Member Guide Forum Moderation Admin Menu I'd recommend all users read the first two sections. The second two items are for Moderators and Admin (MOW). MOW has appointed 3 global moderators 2 moderators 2 staff members I mention this because the HELP menu alone won't help with all forum functions/features and questions. If you don't learn through trial and error, the moderators and staff members can help you out if you post a question in the What's New in the Forum section. Moderators look for trouble and fix it. Example: You posted a URL that is broken. A moderator will do an edit function and try to fix the link. A moderator may see that you are having a problem and send you a post or PM (private message) with suggestions on how to solve it. The moderators and staff are here to HELP promote a good user experience for members. SECURITYWe all know that forums are not secure from Google and other search engines. There are even special search engines for forums only these days. I have found our forum posts when Googling non-related topics before. About 5 years ago I was called by DOD investigators regarding some forum topics they had a lot of questions about. That reminded me of a lesson I learned long ago... that I should never put in digital writing anything that I wouldn't want printed on the front page of tomorrow's newspaper. In the last few days some have said here that opinions should be differentiated from facts and that's true - that was what the DOD wanted to know about. I'm sure that our pal Ted Nugent learned that speaking metaphorically can sometimes be construed as facts or even threats. The term IMHO (in my humble opinion) is one way of differentiating fact from opinion. Here to serve, Pat p. :teacher

A few days ago lber1568 posted a lot of good data about his past jobs during his career on capabilities and topics that I today am very much involved with at the DoD level, as such I won't really comment too much on his topics since I am still with the DoD and still working the job.
But, everything Lorin refers to in regards to information system security, capabilities, eye-in-the-sky, cyber warfare etc is as he says... here to stay, has been with us a long time and only gets better by the minute. Intrusion Detection doesn't even mean that anymore as the term has taken on an entirely new meaning over the years.
Forum Rippers and Crawlers have been used for years, but today's are more advanced than ever, and fast. Kids are 'recruited' by DoD (and services branches) for years of mushroom level development (working in dark rooms) development contracts to do nothing more than one specific coding project to satisfy one specific task. The things we can do these days is beyond belief. When it comes to anything digital everything is monitored, collected, researched, scrutinized and stored. Those traffic cams everyone is worried about being an intrusion? The least of our worries. Visual is still extremely important, but not even close to being #1.
So, as Pat says, if it's not something you'd want on the don't page, don't write it. If you do write it be prepared for anything. I can't begin to tell you how many different authenticative sources are used for things like no-fly lists. Right, wrong or indifferent that's the world we live in, the way it is and the way it will always be. So be careful or at least be aware and prepared.

Right on. I still keep in touch with friends at WPAFB. I am amased that our Gov even complains about attempted internet breaches today. Last time I checked, WPAFB was being scanned, breach checked atc, several thousands times a day. But we have many folks on our side attempting the same thing around the globe. I used to try to gain access to things I wasn't allowed to see. But if I was successful, I would leave a note to webmaster, telling/explaining how I gained entrance and how he could fix his problems. I was an "ethical hacker", not a bad guy. Or I liked to think I was.

I have been unable to post pictures this morning using IE. But I switched to Google Chrome and have been able to post pics without any issues.

Hmmmm... Has anyone noticed that ProBoards has implemented a new HELP menu? www.proboards.com/forum-help-guideor just click HELP at the top of this page. No more videos. Just words to teach the masses about how to use this system. Oh, and you can now set up your own Forum board FREE. Check it out Pat P.
