WHATZ IT? ? I have in my possession two items once used on the F-106. Commonly they were tied together with wax string. Often they were painted Yellow or red. They are made of steel and are about 1.5 inches long, with a Common Screwdriver slot to install them. WHAT ARE THEY? Where were they used and for what purpose??? 1st Prize is yet to be determined! From the description, I would have to say that these are Radar Boresight pins. A pair was usually installed on the antenna (in a non-operational location), but they were often removed for personal use. We usually didn't have any use for them in the mock-up, but they were like gold on the flight-line. And they were normally tied together because they were useless except as a pair. As an aside, we ordered so many of them at Tyndall that they could usually be found in our bench stock.

I just checked & I have two sets of these antenna pins. And just today, I used my tube of silicon grease that Uncle Sam so kindly donated to me in June 1972. As I recall, we used it to lube O-rings used on bonnets that covered magnetron. Also have (2) rolls of safety wire that I use often & (2) rolls of waxed string, (1) flat & (1) round string. Sure was nice of Uncle Sam to give me these useful items..........

I only went up there a couple of times since I was married. Some of the single guys went a lot to chase the local women. The one thing I remember about one of my trips to Madawaska was the ride up. Eight of us went in (2) cars. There was (2) different routes & they were arguing about which was quicker, so they decided (1) car would take one route & the other the other route & settle the argument. The young single guys piled into a '66 Chevelle convertible. I rode with a couple of other guys in a '67 Olds Toronado since it seemed safer than riding with the young crazies. But I was in for a suprise. THe Olds had been hopped up by a speed shop in Eugene, Oregon. I have never had such a ride in my life, we were doing over 100 mph most of the trip. We were on our second beer when the other car made it there. The Olds had so much power & torque that he could smoke the tires anytime he wanted to & that was really something since it was front wheel drive. Front wheel drive was virtually unheard of then, so seeing smoke roll up along the car from the front tires was really something. That ride pretty much overshadowed anything else that happened that night.....
