Took my kids and grandkids there for the first time yesterday. Dont know who had more fun, the older or the younger?
Older kids loved the historical birds, WWII and Korean and VietNam, and really enjoyed the BoneYard/Avenue of Heroes. The little ones loved everything that was small/big, they could walk up to and/or into, odd balls, etc.
We did the AMARG Tour, about a one hour busride with commentators. We also did the walk alone tour of Pima, saw 3 hangars worth of aircraft, the Space hangar, almost none of the outside. There is a tram that would have been very helpful, but it left just before we arrived (typically late at noon). It would have been great to take that ride, it takes you around everyone of the outdoor aircraft. We missed one hangar entirely, but that's fine, gives me a reason to back again for the next group of tourists/visitors.
I'll have to cull through the pix to get the best ones, was too far away from balls 3 (106) to get a good shot, but got a bunch of nice indoor shots. Funny, they didnt have an F 104 there, that's all they needed to have the full collection of active 100 series aircraft.
They did have an F4 T-bird there, this one was an actual duty #7. If I remember correctly, the crew chief on this one was the same as the #4 parked out in Corona, about 15 miles away.
More later, but this is a great way to spend the better part of a day. And I cant wait for comments from some of you guys.
BTW, I think they said there were around 485 aircraft at Pima, but over 4000 at the boneyard.
Oh, and they did saythat there was a program underway to upgrade the A-10 and keep them functional through at least 2014, and possibly 2040, we couldnt remember the date as there were a few of them flying overhead as he was giving us some facts.
Was surprised to hear that some of the F 117 were already mothballed but were being stored in the Area 51 facility inside of hangars.

Thanks, Jim. Next time up there, I'm gonna have to take the tram guided tour of the outside area and find that rascal. It's not with the other Century Series. I'll have to ask the docent's where it might be.
And I'll get better shots of the 106, it's got a few helicopters on the left side and a Deuce on the right side.

The tram is really the only way, artheritis and other joint maladies become the main factor..... You would have to have "rose colored" glasses on to visualize 003 as having ever flown.... Last time I contacted the director concerning 003, I was told that it was several years down the road before they would start working on it.. They had some War Birds that were a higher priority... As far as I am concerned, 003 should really go to Tyler Tex and the HAMM outfit... The bird looks like hell in its present condition. I use to visit the museum a couple of times a year, until I was told that there was no priority concerning 003
