While one our Hawaii vacation I dropped my camera. A small door fell off and disapeared. Noth a big problem as it is just a cover. The sunset feature no longer works and when I turn on the camera instead of the LAD showning what I want to take a picture of I get the date and time data seceen. I then have to select the FUNC SET butting to get out of it. By that time I miss picture oppertunities. It is not correctable by me anyway. I talked with Canon today and they could not give me a repair cost. The figured I get a refurbished camera as a replacement. Cost depended on what my camara's repairs would be. They suggested I take part in the Canon Loyolity Program route. Pay $110 and get the new SX130 to replace my SX120. I have to send in my old SX120. This is the data on the SX130: www.dpreview.com/news/2010/8/19/canonpowershotsx130isI value any comments from our camera experts like Gene..

the way cameras are today, its up to you. i get the best shots on my cell phone... there are people on this site who have very expensive cameras...we have talked about different features all the different cameras offer... what makes you happy is what should rule your decision. cameras like everything else in this "throwaway" world, are just that... having blown all that hot air, i think I'd take the deal and get the new camera...and make them live up to their promises...

The SX130 is and upgrade from your SX120. But the SX120 came out in 2009 and SX130 came out in 2010. While they are both nice camera's, they are 2-3 years old. Technology and pricing have improved since then. I saw an ad from Walmart for SX130 IS for $99 without trade-in. I have always thought buying direct from Mfg would be cheaper, but thats not always the case. Just my 2 cents worth Lorin

Gary, Lorin is correct, there are lots of places to buy cameras that are much cheaper than from the manufacturer.
Gene is also correct.
Buy the camera that will do what you want it to, not what some company wants you to have.
We bought De's most recent camera at Costco.
It is a Panasonic point-and-shoot, with a Leica lens.
Takes great pictures, simple to use and not expensive.
Take at look at some of the on-line ratings of cameras, there are a ton of them, then see what prices you can find.
Walmart, Sams, Costco, Amazon and many camera sales outfits will come up with some great prices.

my SX100 just started to work very slowly after about 7 years and I just got a SX150. More zoom, more features, slightly different controls and takes great pix. got it online for about 30 bucks less than any store, but look around, new stuff should be coming out, so older should be going on sale. PS a lot of the online stuff can get to you within a few days, many sellers are using Priority Mail with tracking and insurance

Thanks for the feed back. I like to keep it simple. I believe I'll look around some. Walmart's $99 deal and then adding 8.5% sales tax brings the cost close to $110 While in Hawaii I talked to a guy who had a camera in the pool. His was waterproof down to 40 ft and shock proof. I looked a few up and they seem too costly. While I was in Hawaii I saw a camera that was 16x zoom but don't recall the pixels or manufacture. I'm in no rush and no vacation or trip coming up soon so I'll research. If anyone sees a deal or has a suggestion let me know. Thanks again.

Watch the "Black Friday" Ads (Day after Thanksgiving). Walmarts, Office Max, Office Depot etc all have some great deals.

LBer, I never shop "Black Friday" I hate crowds. I stay away from the BX & Commassary on payday weekends also. People are so rude and nasty I'd likely punch some a$$hole out. My main objective is to buy American made camera. :salute :us_flag

Adorama is also a good spot to look/buy.
Very good deals to be had online, and a good way to do research.

I'm not sure if Kodak is still made in America, but I have bought and used several and they are good cameras and take great pictures. Sometimes I am amazed at how a picture turns out. I had one that I loved because it fit in a pocket very easily and for a point and shoot, it was great until the screen was bummed by something hard enough to crack it. The camera still works, but I don't know what I'm aiming at. I bought another Kodak that doesn't fit into my pocket but it is very good at taking pictures. It is a model ZD710.I am very happy with my camera. I took a picture one night after a snow storm and it turned out to be my favorite shot. If I can find it easily, I will post it later but I am kind of proud of it and I would appreciate your opinions.
I think I would have cried a bit after dropping my camera, Gary. I like reading what you guys have to say about this so I felt i had to add my two cents worth.

Mike, Kodak is still selling cameras, but for how long I don't know.
They are manufactured outside the U.S..
Gary, there are no U.S. made cameras.
If there were, it would have lenses and electronics made outside the U.S.
Asia is now where virtually all cameras are built.
Too bad, as we used to make some pretty good cameras.

Very nice picture, Mike.
I really like the way the shadows were captured and the contrasts between the snow and the darker objects.
The Christmas lights in the window are a nice focus point.
Good Job.
