Wow! I haven't been on-line in a while, so I see there's been quite the updating on this thread . arkdrtfan, that is the EXACT same issue I'm having with this stupid model. Well, that and the darn nose gear bay issue I mentioned above. So, that being said, do tell...how'd you do it? Thanks! James aka TomcatFanatic123

Check out squadron.com there is decal set for a F-106 chase plane, I believe they're Superscale.

What a great job and a detailed build report! Thanks for sharing Mark. The only thing I found possibly missing was the tail hook was gray versus red. He may have painted that in a later picture. The pictures look very realistic. Thanks, Pat Perry 456th FIS

Yea, the instructions for the kit tell folks to paint it red. I've seen pics of red ones so I don't know where he got that.
I also noticed he painted the entire intake splitters and their interiors silver. (They were white interiors, right? And I know only the forward edges of the splitters were natural metal.) Gotta admit he put together a good kit although it's really not that bad.

You folks mentioned the tail hook as red. The Revell plans say Steel. I painted it silver. It should be red right?

I haven't worked on the 106 for about 4 weeks now due to illness, weddings and travel. Now back to the "shop".

I'm working on the 48th scale F-106 using the Falcon vac conversion to make a B model. There doesn't appear to be much reference material out there to illustrate what kind of gadgetry was between the back of the front seat and the front end of the back seaters instrument panel, the kit is a bit sparse on that note. can anyone out there help me get a halfway accurate B model cockpit? BTW My Dad, Vernon Kight, worked for the 11th FIS and 48th FIS as well as instructing on the MA1 fire control computer system at Lowery AFB CO.

Dave, you might try to locate a copy of F-106 Delta Dart The Ultimate Interceptor in detail & scale by Bert Kinzey. It contains images that you may find useful.

I am sure you will find tons of help on aircraft kits here: www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.phpI noticed a few over there were building or had built Sixes. Got some great pictures of them there too. If you do a quick search for "F-106" there are quite a few hits. Some are just chit chat, othrs are dealing with kits. If I remember I saw Mark had visited as had sixerviper. AJ - Da Ole Guy

guys, i have an interesting story about that revell kit. i received mine today and though i had a decal sheet from aeromaster for the record setting 177th 'red devils' ready for this model, i wanted to see the stock decals. well, that langley scheme included in the kit is for the plane flown by a captain malcolm emerson.
mal emerson happens to be the dad of my life long friend clay emerson. i instantly was shocked and called clay to tell him. he had no idea that there was such a model out featuring his dad's plane. the funny thing is, as long as i've known clay (since i was 8 or so), i knew his dad was an airline pilot, but never knew that he flew fighters ever in his career. in fact i had no idea he was ever in the armed forces at any point.
i emailed dan lee, who built that kit featured in the modelingmadness link earlier in this thread to tell him about my lil discovery, and clay is going to order another kit, which i'm going to build for his dad (the one i have is a keeper!). until then, he's going to keep this a secret, but he tells me his dad has oodles upon oodles of pics and memorabilia from his af/ang days. i can't wait to learn about what he actually has!

Wow, that's pretty amazing. Ask if he's willing to share some of those oodles with my site. I'd love to add any photos he has to www.f-106deltadart.com oh, and don't forget to mention to him about registering in the Alumni database wwwf-106deltadart.com/database-register.htm..

He actually is registed for the 48th and 119th in the database! I have not talked to him about the site yet, but evidently he's been on it. I have forwarded a link to Clay and he's reported to me that his dad has many photos from his flying time in VA, FL and NJ. Turns out Clay did talk to his dad about the model. Clay's dad's roomate in college ended up starting a company that did sticker sheets for models. Mr. Emerson and this guy stayed friends and eventually the friend commissioned an aftermarket decal sheet for 1:48 scale f-106 models in commeration of Mal's duties at Langley. Well, evidently Revell ended up using this sheet when they re-issued the old Monogram "Six".
In another strange twist, and this one is REALLY weird...
Not too long ago, Clay's family moved his Grandmom into an assisted living program in VA. One day, she was down at some sort of cafeteria on the premises and met a man named "Dick" who used to design aircraft. She mentioned to him that her son Malcolm flew out of Langley, and mentioned the time frame. Turns out "Dick" is Richard Whitcomb!!!!! I was floored when Clay told me this...it's truly a small world!!!!
