I recently purchased the Revell (Monogram) F-106. I comes with decals for 59-0127 and 59-0142. I'm wanting to do something a little less traditional. I'm all into the special paint jobs such as test planes, chase planes, and aggressors. Any ideas?

With the re-release of the 1:48 F-106 there has been a slight surge in the number of decals available for the kit. I know Expert's Choice has had the B-1 Chase decals out for some time and they should still be available. I don't know of any decals specifically made for any of the test F-106s but they shouldn't be to hard to bash. Most were pretty plain anyway. I can't recall any F-106s in an aggressor scheme other than a photo of a model in Wings of Fame, Vol. 12. That project never came to fruition of course but several squadrons did play the roll of aggressor during exercises - just without any special paint scheme. (Makes me think of that line from Raising Arizona actually! "Do you have any balloons that make funny shapes?" "Not unless round is funny.") Anyway, check out www.modelingmadness.com for a few reviews of different F-106 decals. www.modelingmadness.com/decals/decals%20F2/f106.htmThere are plenty more but this might get you started on some ideas. Good luck, Mark

The 1st reply to your inquiry is by far the best that I have seen. Occasionally, you find something else out there. Example: www.foxonedecals.com I read somewhere that Hasegawa has released a 1/48 of F-106. So far only in Japan....

Hey Pat, Thanks for fixing my post! I did that one pretty quickly and fat-fingered it obviously! I just thought of another option for Whiskey - the drones and target Sixes. Other than the before-and-after decals for 59-0043 (also on I can't think of a specific set for the QF's but they shouldn't be to hard to recreate. Perhaps even a unique, target version from William Tell? I know the 159th FIS provided a few in that effort. The more I think of it the more ideas I have of one-of-a-kind, F-106 paint schemes that were not squadron specific. Ahhh! Research!! Thanks again, Mark

Hey guys, thanks for the ideas. When I decide on which exact Six I'm gonna model, you can expect to see another post for pics of that exact AC.

I "broke lose" and bought the Revell 1/48th F-106 today. I haven't scrutinized it yet. Hope I am not disappointed. Guess I can't complain though only cost $11.43 here at Fred Meyer store.

I have started building the '6 model. The model appears to be almost as good as the Monogram version. I will post some pictures when I get it built.

The more I build the model the more impressed I am. Its like a different company made that F-15 model compared to their F-106 model. It seems to fit well. Just have to trim some "flash" off of the various parts.

Speaking of the Revell F-106 (feel free to tell me to "shut up" if I'm hijacking the thread here ), I need serious help with the nose gear bay. I can't for the life of me get the part where the strut attaches and the "L" shaped part that makes up the side wall opposite the door and the front wall to fit properly. Anybody have any advice, or have run into a similar problem?

I am having a problem with the nose landing gear. I gave too much credit to Revell.

I am having a problem with the nose landing gear. I gave too much credit to Revell. Not to worry. My neighbor built my six model and he's a pro. He said that's one of the tougher kits he's built due to lots of trimming and rubber bands needed during drying because of slight warpage of some parts. When it comes to building models my fine motor skills stop with anything smaller than a 2x4, 8 feet long. I looked in the nose wheel well on mine but I can't visualize the problem you are having. Does it need trimming to fit? Looks like the nose gear glues to the aft nose wheel well bulkhead and the brace angles forward to meet the top bulkhead. Do some more 'splainin Lucy ;-) Maybe I can take a picture and email it to you if that will help. Pat Perry 456th FIS

Where I am having a problem is the "Nose Oleo Strut and Bulkhead" and the "Nose Retraction Strut". They don't appear to fit too well. " I'm working on it". Wish I still had the plans from the Monogram model.

Don't know how "fine" the model will be.
