Have I mentioned lately that our VFW Post 10216 www.vfw10216.com/ outside Osan AB has a Facebook page and that everyone is welcome? Some of you are already friends, but would love to add more.

Since 1993.* Facebook member? No. Tried it once for a few months, and decided to pass. Not quite ready to try it again. *BTW, I need to get my membership transferred to the local post soon.

I think I mentioned this before Pat, but I actually met Colonel Millett at Ft. Lewis, Washington back in 1987 when my brother was commissioned as a 2LT in the Army. There were four or five ROTC cadets getting commissioned that day, and Col Millett was present for the ceremony. Most of the guys had him pin their "butter bars" on, but my brother asked me to pin his on. (I think another guy had his parents pin his on.)
Wow!
I told my brother he was an idiot not having a Medal of Honor recipient do the pinning, but he chose me.
Me??! Over Col Millett? What an honor.
During the ceremony I was the only enlisted guy in the room. Just some poor, schmuck, buck sergeant wearing my uniform of the day which happened to be jungle fatigues!! (I still had to work for a living back then. No time to go get dressed up for a quick ceremony!) It was crazy! Col Millett was in full "Class A" uniform with the medal around his neck, and more ribbons than I had ever seen in my life on his chest.
What an experience...
Looking back on it I always wished I would have asked for Col Millett's autograph, but it was very surreal being in his presence, and I didn't think that would have been appropriate. I should have asked anyway.

I think your brother knew exactly what he was doing in having his bro pin on :2thumbsup :salute :us_flag

Thanks Pat! Pinning on my brother's butter bar will always be an important event in our lives especially considering it was his choice. I didn't mention it but it still cracks me up that I had to buy the silver dollar he had to give me for giving him his first salute! He's always been a cheapskate! (In all fairness, he was pretty busy at the time, and did give me the paper dollars to buy the silver dollars at the bank. I bought one for each of the guys getting commissioned that day, but only took my brother's.) See? Another Korean link we have in common! (Buy a Hyundai from me...buy a Hyundai from me...buy a Hyundai from me...)

I sold a Dodge Caravan to a Vietnam vet last week, and found out he was in the VFW here in Abilene. I told him I was a life member, and he's visited me twice to get me to transfer to the post here. Well, he stopped by this morning to invite me to lunch at "The V", but I was way to busy, so I met him there after work. I officially transferred my life membership to the Martin D. Denson VFW Post 6873. www.vfw6873.org/home/index.html'Bout damn time I took care of that.
