Are there decals for the 5th FIS available? That squadron was based about five hours from my home town.
I know that the 59th flew the F-102, but it is of special interest to me as it was stationed out of Goose Bay and Stephenville, NFLD for a while. Are there any decals available for this unit? (for the F-102)

The only decals for the deuce in the 59th FIS can be found at www.kedidecals.com/ They are available in 1/72 and 1/48 scale. There are/were a couple of sources for the 5th FIS decals for the six Superscale/Microscale made a sheet which can be found occasionally on e-bay and, of course, the Bare-Metal source mentioned by Bill. These were also available in 1/72 and 1/48 scales Mike

P.S. My pop flew the deuce with the 59th in Goose Bay around '62 between his stints flying the six with the 319th at Bunker Hill and the 498th out of McChord so these are all poplular schemes for me as well.
Cheers

That Hasegawa kit is still readily found in decent hobby shops with big selections or on-line. If you get it for the 5th FIS decals beware however. On one side it has the ADC logo and on the other side it has the TAC logo! It is possible to fix this if you decide to build an ADC version by using the enclosed 5th FIS patch decal and put it over the TAC logo. (It will fit.) Just an option I thought you might be interested in.

Thank You,
The specific time period that I am looking for is when the 59th was stationed at Goose Bay.
The models that I am working on will eventually include the F-106, F-102, F-101 (CF-101), and the F-104 (CF-104). These represent weapon systems that may have been deployed to, or used by Canada in the event of a global war. The F-101 (409SQN), F-104(439/441SQN) and BOMARC will be in Canadian Forces colours, the F-106 will be in 5FIS, 456FIS, 27FIS or 318FIS colours.
Most of these models are going into dioramas. Right now I only have the F-106 and CF-104G. All of the kits are in 1:48 scale.

The 59th FIS was transferred from SAC to ADC in December 1948 at Otis AFB with F 84s. In the fall of 1950 the unit began a transition to F 86As which were replaced later in the year by F 94As and Bs. The 59th Fighter Interceptor Squadron was then transferred to the control of North East Air Command in October 1952 with a move to Goose Bay, Labrador. In 1957 the 59th FIS was once again placed under control of ADC with F89Ds and Js. A transition to F102As was completed in the summer of 1960. On 1 January 1967 the unit was transferred on paper to Bergstrom AFB to be deactivated on 2 January. In September 1968 the 332nd FIS at Kingsley Field was redesignated as the 59th FIS flying F 101Bs. On 17 December 1969 final deactivation of the 59th FIS occurred.. This information is provided by an F102 website. Ralph L Robledo
