Go to the Revell web site at www.revell-monogram.com/home.html and do a search on kit number 5847 -or- go straight there at www.revell-monogram.com/store/ModelDetail.cfm?Id=0&Number=5847&x=39&y=10You'll find the new kit but there still is no mention of in on the upcoming product release page. Strange way to market a product on your web site. The MSRP for the kit is $16.05 and ebay model hawkers are starting their bids in the $15.00 range. Think I'll go to Wal-Mart and see what they are selling them for. Of course they also make a profit on shipping & handling costs so watch out for that. Squadron Models a big distributor does not yet have the new kit on their web site at www.squadron.com/I have also heard that Aero Master Decals will be offering alternative decal sets for other F-106 Squadrons at 1/48 scale. Of course there's always this one by our own Mark Williams modelingmadness.com/others/decals/williamsam48509.htmPat Perry

In my previous post I meant that Ebay model hawkers make a profit on shipping & handling, not Wal Mart. Sorry about the confusing paragraph. Pat

Hi, I picked up the kit yesterday. No changes from the previous releases, just different decals. Question about the 456th markings: are the stripes on the rudder dark blue or black? The photo's I've seen are dark blue, (insignia blue), wheras the drawings show them black. The kit has them black, following the Squadron book on the SIX. Thanks, Jon

Hi Jon, The yellow and black tails were 61-66. The yellow and insignia blue tails were from 66-68. I think AeroMaster decals is going to provide the 66-68 tails decals in an set for purchase. Will let you know if I hear for sure on that. Thanks, Pat perry

What about the "U.S. AIR FORCE" markings? Kit decals are blue. What were the real ones?
Oh, what about that little decal forward of the Pilot/CC name for the 456th markings? What is that?
I'll get a scan of the decals here soon.

Mark, US Air Force letters were insignia blue (dark, dark blue) in 1966 when I was a painter. They could have been black in years before that - I don't know.
I'll wait for your scan to see what you were talking about on the 456th decal forward of the pilot/CC plackard. Thanks, Pat

Okay, here is a quicky, not-that-great scan of the new Revell kit decals. What I see as the hardest part is matching the yellow tail to the pre-colored commander stripes on the 456th markings. I just love the pre-printed, white AIM-4 trigger markings and the pitot stripes down on the bottom right. Makes detailing alot easier! Mark

Oh, sorry, the decal I'm talking about can be seen on the box art and on the decal sheet is number 31. There are two of them located on the right side of the sheet at about 1:00 o'clock in relation to the ADC badge for the 456th bird.

Hi, Mark, The USAF and US AIR FORCE color was insignia blue, I believe from the start. The serial number was black early but transitioned to blue around the late 60's, if the captions on the photo's I saw are accurate. It's really hard to tell the blue color since it's the same blue as inside the star and bar, which, from a distance, looks almost black. As far as the yellow, it looks like it's close to Cub yellow. I'm going to paint the yellow and just use the pinstripes, that way I don't have to match anything. I've communicated with some SIX maintainers regarding the various colors used for the markings and they all said they were stock colors, usually from the "insignia" group of colors, such as insignia yellow, etc. I'll have to get my FS color chips out and see how close the yellow is. Trying to match, or even determine colors from photo's that are printed in magazines is fraught with peril. Everything is dependent on how accurate the printing process was, the types and shades of ink used, etc, that's why a real photo is invaluable for color accuracy. For those interested in the kit, I'd suggest you buy it as soon as possible, as I don't believe it will be around very long. Although we're crazy about the SIX, it carries limited appeal to the general modeling public because there's not a lot of color, except the fin and it's not a combat aircraft like the F-4, etc. This also applies to any aftermarket decals that may be released. For those that like the B model, Aeromaster (I think) has a conversion kit to turn the A to a B, but it's a little pricey, around $80 as I remember. BRG, Jon

Hi everyone, I did a little more research and for those who are interested, the B conversion kit is available from Meteor productions for $75. They also have the B-1 chase decals available for the B. www.meteorprod.comAeromaster has the decal sheet that was included with the release of the kit in Japan last year. It's going for $10.00. As Pat said, there will probably be more decal sheets in the near future. BRG, Jon

If it helps any, the yellow color on the tail was AGE yellow (Aerospace Ground Equipment). I forgot the mil spec number and the name of the yellow. Seems like it was chrome yellow or high intensity yellow or day glo yellow or something like that. Thanks, Pat

We called it Ground Power Yellow in the days before camo and increased accidents.....The yellow was about 5 shades darker than Insignia Yellow...OLD Sarge Regarding 456FIS Colors and Markings: the Federal Stock number for yellow vertical stabilizer, command stripes and name plate during the Yellow and Black era (mid 1961 through late 1967)was FS 13538. This color is listed by some sources as Chrome Yellow, and by other sources as Insignia Yellow. Please note: paint guide on box and in kit instructions lists color as Gloss Yellow, FS 14538. This is in error. ;D ;D ;D

HEY!!! I saw that model at the local hobby store a few days ago! For some reason I picked the F-102A model instead (if I recall the quality of the model looked better-- more detail, etc)... Plus, I figured I'd buy the -106 model AFTER I built the 102... why not go in order? -Delta2477
