Hey all, I'm new here, and right off the back, I have what might be an interesting question--My line of work has me doing a lot of walking in the woods, and yesterday, I came across this in the middle of a 50 foot tall stand of trees, just sitting on the ground. I couldn't help but lug it out and cart it home.
A bit of digging around revealed that it was the nose cone from a CF101-B, and I'm just wondering how the heck it would have come to be sitting there?
Did they just fall off jets or what?
Thanks in advance, Roger

Things do fall off aircraft. No mystery there. Nice that you found it. Whats your plans for it?

Thanks in advance, Roger Found this: November 16, 2007, 1:09pm- Back in the 80's, I was a radar and communication tech in the CAF, One night during a flight a CF-101 Voodoo pilot ,complained that he lost his radar during the flight. After the landing we took a look at the A/C and it was missing the radome, radar antenna and the transmitter/receiver was crushed. What happened the A/C flew in a flock of snow geeses. Each panels that we open had guts and feathers in them and the stink was horrible. They had to replace the nose of the A/C because it was bend. On a further note, one of my friends is a retired serviceman that worked at the local airbase, and he tells me that they lost a CF101 in the vicinity of where I found the cone. He tells me he's surprised it's in as good a shape as it is.

One day a couple of hunters brought into the McChord Air Museum an old ejection seat they found in the Olympic Mountains. It was narrowed down to a F-86D Sabre Jet that went down many years ago after it departed the base. A little peace of history was saved.
On another day a main engine cowling fell off a C-141 and landed in the middle of Interstate-5. All that was good for was scrap metal.
One mans junk is another mans treasure.
A old F-101 pilot might see it on ebay or craigs list and take it off your hands.

A bit of an update--one of my friends used to work at the local air force base (now closed), and tells me that one afternoon back in the early '80s, a couple of Voodoos were dogfighting, and one of them experienced a pitch up at roughly 20000ft, and came almost straight in. They only found the tailhook and a 100' patch of burnt forest. Both crew bailed (one of the guys suffered a broken collar bone) and was recovered by helo. He says this happend very close to where I found the cone.
Why only the tailhook and nose cone made it relatively intact, I guess no one will ever know...
