Hey I noticed that 56-0454 at Holloman was repainted as a QF-106. Anyone know when they did that? I'm actually glad they got rid of that 'HO' tail code. It just never looked right on a Six. Too 'Tactical Air Command' - grrrr!

Hi, I know I am getting old, but if memory serves me correct, wasn't she assigned to our Green Dragon squadron. I also could've sworn Brian Roberts was the crew chief for her. I always liked that guy...heckuva technician

Too 'Tactical Air Command' - grrrr! Mark 454 was a full scale target at holloman for several years. It was supposed to shot down back in mid 90s but it crapped out on runway and 453 went in its place and promptly took the fatal hit. I tried to keep BOTH of the ground since they represented the first and second production models of the 106 but at least 454 didnt end up in the scrap heap. They were painted those colors at East Alton IL. So it was not repainted as a drone, it was a drone. I spent 5.5 years on that program as a QAE. My own dart, 080 went into the drink out of Tyndall. They were supposed to send it to Holloman but "borrowed" it for "just one mission". sigh, borrowed it HA. Jeff Coon, 49ers Concrete Commando 81-83

I think I might have confused you when I wrote about the repainting. This is the original colors they painted it as when it was put on display. www.convairf-106deltadart.com/560454Dis02Large.htmlI prefer the current "drone" scheme over the never-used TAC paint job they had with the "HO" markings. That's what I meant by the repainting. Thanks again for the history! That's why I love coming here to read! Mark

Actually, no matter what they tell you, the first paint job was really a misunderstanding of the requirement stated. It was corrected when Heritage Park was moved over between HQs building and the Hospital. Its strange to stand in front of the park now and realize my entire career is represented. F-4, F-106, AT-38B, F-15A. Even had some to do with the F-100 while it was still a Drone, and a couple rides in the T-33 while at the Grif. Not to mention my first Tactical ride was a B model dart from Grif to the Det in Maine. WOW now i do feel old.
