Mark Note the panel slightly fwd of the IFR receptacle at 8min 9 secs and 8 min 11 secs.. A air inlet door opens as the gun begins to fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again Mark. The video answers a lot of the questions I have had regarding the 6shooter in actual use (from the wpns maint POV). My bird is gun-capable; but it appears from the video that without the special doors for aft bay, even if I could find a gun package, it would have to be display only just like Ralph's at Castle Air Museum. Drat.

A question from Doug Barbier - Pat P.
OK - we have determined that 75 gun pods were bought for vertical tape equipped F-106A models - in FY 75. The clear top canopy mod was done to all "A" models in 1972-73 but when were the gun sights installed in the vertical tape jets? It was after CY 1974, that is for sure. Can anyone help?

Lowry Tech school was teaching the gun mod in 1978-79 and beyond. Trainers were modified in 1979 Last mod to our trainers was in 1985 and that was the solid state receiver. I think a total of about 30 students got that training - mostly guard troops. Last one through the tech school was a lone student who went to Griffiss in 1987. MArv
