And we all have memories of six's coming back on emergency and doing Approach End engagements. Being at Tyndall with a lot of newbies flying six's we had probably two or three a week. And the cable was suspended with little rubber wheels, maybe 5-6 " in diameter to keep cable off ground. And it took civil engineering a while to roll cable back and reset. They found it best to do approach end connects so they still had runway left if they missed. The rubber between hook shaft and body of airframe was to prevent damage to metal if it vibrated in flight.

Looks great, and what a shiny-clean belly.
It should be the hit of the show.

Looks great! I'm sorry I win't be around for the open house, but we're headed to Iowa for the Stare's fair (long story.) Maybe next year.

seems to me it was painted red so youcould see it and not whack your head against it! painting it grey would sort of defeat that.

looks like somethings been chewing on it, maybe a New York City rat? :rofl
guess the guard wasnt as bad as the Loran/Doppler antenna. The antennas were tough on the B man from the loading team. OUCH

Stupid piggybacking question... not to threadjack--and nice build OP!--but was repainting the fairing dark-gray common practice, and does anyone know what FS numbers were used? I'm guessing the hooks woulda been either 11136 (Gloss) or 31136 (Flat) Insignia Red. Actually, those pics on Balls 57 make the antennas and fairing look Gloss Black...

I just eyeballed the red. I admit it is brighter than the red in other pictures; but, the color is usable on other equipment at the museum (just being practical $$$). Thanks for the compliment though. It was fun to fabricate and really makes my plane look complete. :thanks Upon closer review of many pictures, it looks like I need to repaint my hook guard gull gray. I painted it red, but most of the pictures here show it as body color. Same with the fairing aft of the hook; mine's already body color.
