it would be too easy to make jokes and just be a wise guy, but I've been on a few flights on 767's between the east coast and scandinavia where the wings have been flapping like a bird, and this is absolutely amazing.
I remember viewing some of the original test of the 727 and gained incredible respect for anything Boeing. But the flex on these guys is breath taking. Now the only thing to fear is an RPG or a drunk pilot (LOL).
Job well done!! awe inspiring demonstration.

the test is the second one that actually passed ..the first one broke at 115% ...far below what was expected....there was a whole bunch of political crap from mgrs that didn't have a clue ...the engineer that calculated where and when it was going to break with the first design went in with all his notes, emails and records to a VP meeting to show them his calc's and proved them right.....he was later promoted to head engineer of the wings....that is one reason of many we were late 3 yrs...the first attempt failed miserably and we had already built about 20 airplanes and had them on the ramp waiting for cert.....well...they had to be totally rebuilt here ..all the new mods and wing strengthening mods had to be installed BEFORE we could meet cert..... so...to bring you up to date on that...the wing is supposed to support 150% of the airplanes design limits....meaning at 150% ..the wing can't break ....it will exceed all design limits at that limit.....it's designed to fail right at the spot it broke.......therefore not only will the wing support anything the pilot or nature can throw at it...but it shouldn't fail either.... remember..this is the first all composite wing ever built for commercial aircraft use...we had to prove alot more than a standard al. wing.... that rig is not far from me and we weren't allowed near or even in the same bay to see it during testing....so..I didn't even go over to see what it would do....been to the test rig a few times and it's really wild to see a fuselage in the test rig.... now a side note.....you can go out to the wingtip...and lift the entire airplane off the ground ...it will balance itself on that wingtip and the wingtip will support the weight of the airplane....that's how strong boeing wings are...... (according to folklore here at the bomber factory).. here's the wing box test to failure video.search.yahoo.com/search/video?p=boeing+787+wing+failure+testSteve
