This came to mind specifically for our own Mark O. who can now officially put (Ret) after his signature block, but is put here for any and all of our retiring veteran's regardless of service branch, and yes... even for those non aircraft related ones Job Well Done Men and Women :us_flag we salute you and thank you for your service :salute MY LAST PARADE
Let the bugle blow Let the march be played With the forming of the troops For my last parade
The years of wars, and the years of waiting Obedience to orders, unhesitating Years in the states, and the years overseas All woven in a web... of memories
A lifetime of service passes in review As many good friends and exotic places too In the waning sunlight begin to fade With martial music of my last parade
My last salute to the service and base Now someone else will take my place To the sharp young soldiers marching away I gladly pass the orders of the day
Though uncertain what my future may hold Still, if needed – before I grow too old- I’ll keep my saber sharp, my powder dry Lest I be recalled to duty by and by
So let the bugle blow...
Fire the evening gun...
Slowly lower the colors...
My retirement has begun

A Career That Blossomed: Maj. Gen. Alfred Flowers, USAF's longest serving airman and currently its deputy assistant secretary for budget, is retiring after 46 years of service. A native of Kinston, N.C., Flowers joined the Air Force at age 17. He began his active duty career in 1965 as a supply warehouseman at Grand Forks AFB, N.D. In 1968, he served as an air transportation specialist at Da Nang AB, Vietnam. After 13 years in the enlisted corps, Flowers received a commission as a financial management officer in 1978 and went on to assignments including US Special Operations Command's director of resources and head of 2nd Air Force at Keesler AFB, Miss. In all, he's had 25 assignments. Flowers' retirement takes effect on Jan. 1, but his retirement ceremony and banquet took place on Nov. 17 at JB Anacostia-Bolling, D.C. During the ceremony, Air Force Secretary Michael Donley presented Flowers with the Distinguished Service Medal. "We all do our jobs and do them the best we can, but we could not do them without the people around us," said Flowers. "The people are what I will miss the most." (SAF/PA report by TSgt. Richard Williams)
