Some of our worst presidents had military service. Carter and LBJ are probably the worst, in my opinion. Here is a list of our presidents. It gives the rank and military service of those who did serve, and shows which ones never served. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_Presidents_by_military_serviceHowever, unless a president has military experience, I don't see how he is qualified to make military decisions on his own. Unfortunately, those in the present administration who have any military background are very liberal, like the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and are not well qualified. It gets worse in the congress there are only 21% of the 112th Congress with any kind of military background. Of those, some are not friends of the military, like John Kerry. In 1969, 75% of the members of the congress had a military background. No wonder our military is being continually raped by our politicians. Maybe we need to go back to the old system of waging wars. The king and his noblemen led the charge in to battle. If the king, a duke or an earl got wounded, killed or captured, the battle usually ended. No more. We have people directing our wars with remote control, like the pilot-less planes flying in Afghanistan and Iraq. “All wars are boyish and are fought by boys.” Herman Melville (1819 – 1891) I hope in 2012 we can elect more members of congress with military background, and a president who has served in the military and not some military hater like we now are saddled with.
