I was looking at the 456 FIS web site when I came across mention of a 3 engined F-106 816NA operated by NASA (?) out of Langley. www.456fis.org/THE_SUPER_F-106.htmDoes anyone know anymore about this? Are there any photos?

Nice research Tinwolf. Plus you've made 39 posts in 6 days and motivated our master of the web to add your work to the site.
I'd say that even though you drink warm beer over in the UK you certainly deserve a round on us and a positive whack in the old Karma!
Cheers! Pat P.
PS: We used to fish at Lake Sam Rayburn in East Texas which is 65 miles long and a mile or so wide. The B-52s from Barkadale AFB Louisiana used to do low level flyovers with bay doors open to practice bombing runs. They'd be doing about 400 mph at 150 to 200 feet over the water and would often scare the Hello out of people trying to catch fish.
Ah, the sound of freedom!

Thanks guys, it took quite a bit of searching to get the information but I enjoyed it. There are more F-106 NASA pictures here: grcimagenet.grc.nasa.gov/SEARCH/SCR_Search.cfm?search=searchJust put f-106 in the search and off you go. Some great pictures there that aren`t on the main NASA site, try a search for apollo or mercury, great stuff.

The engines used in this progam were J-85-GE-13 and some slightly smaller (diameter) variants........ Guys who spent time in FLYTAF (ATC pilot training) will remember them from the T-38 Talon, MAAG people will remember them from the F-5A/B and another variant in the F-5E as well as in some AT-37s.. These engines were not much larger in dia. than the supersonic tanks used on the six................

If you look through some of the pictures on the NASA site it looks like they tried a variety of exhaust nozzles in the program.
