F-106A 59-0010 made its final approach and touched down at McClellan on May 4, 2005 escorted by Red Bull 11, Lt. Col. Dick Stultz. It landed on tires but not its own as it was slowly lowered to the concrete by a crane. Home at last, Home to stay, Forever and a day.

Jim Most of the thanks goes to Dick Stultz. He did most of the work to get 010 to McClellan and he has a lot more work to get it ready for display. All I did was to make a lot of noise as a squeaky wheel until it was offered to McClellan.

That is great news! I wish I were still at McClellan just to see it. I had the pleasure of working a couple of the restorations when I was stationed there late 80's early 90's and there was always talk about getting a six. We got the 102 while I was there, but damn if I didn't want to be there for this grand occasion. Great job all!

Congratulations are in order to all who participated in the 59-0010 recovery processSee attached photo of its homecoming. I was scheduled to join the team at AMARC for the effort, but by the time AMARC finally released the aircraft to us I was in Hawaii. Lousy rotten timing, if you ask me, but at least 59-0010 is now safe and secure, and ready to be transformed back into the grand old bird she was in active service. For some background history on the aircraft, visit my website and check out: webs.lanset.com/aeolusaero/Articles/F106_history.htmWe'll have more pictures as they are made available by those who took them. I am sure I speak on behalf of Al Durden, Dick Stultz, and the rest of the McClellan board of directors when I say mere words fail to express our collective pride and satisfaction over having having saved 59-0010 for posterity, as the premier member of our 'Century Series Row' at the McClellan Aviation Museum air park.

While in CA for the 456th Reunion, I stopped by McClellan Air Museum which is now called the Aerospace Museum of California. Also dropped by the Pacific Coast Air Museum in Santa Rosa, CA.
At McClellan the aircraft exhibits were closed so they could move them and break ground for a new building. Stan Getz gave me the 50 cent tour of the architects views of the new site. It's going to be a very nice museum with lots of learning events for children. They plan to have it completed by Jan 2007. Also saw the F-106 sitting outside the restoration hangar. It looks like it's about ready to paint. They had 3 WWII flying bombers in for a show and you could purchase rides fo about $450.
While at the McClellan gift shop I bought one of their F-106 belt buckles - what a nice piece of work! It had the initial "DD" on it and I could not figure out if that stood for "Dirty Durden" or DiszDisz which is Richard Stultz nickname? Which is it AL?
At PCAM the F-106 was looking great. They had a very nice indoor exhibit on the F-106 with lots of pictures and story boards. The were getting a Marine Harrier jump jet ready to restore.
I'll post the URL when I get my trip pictures uploaded.
My compliments to both museums for all the work they have put into their operations.
Thanks, Pat Perry 456th FIS

Pat
I am glad you like the belt buckle. I had it made for the museum and DD is Dirty Durden. Dick signs all his art work DISZ. The museum had the ground breaking yesterday. A 16 VIP Gold Shoval Brigade led by retired General James Hopp broke the ground for the new building. It is now scheduled to be finished in December of 2006.

:-XWelcome back MArv. Yeah, I had it in me all the time--spray painting , that is. It was poco a poco and mano a mano for the last 18 months. We had a fire in the hanger in March, so we did not have a compressor for a whole month. Once we got back on track, it was day to day if we were going to get the DEUCE out on time. I was still on the wing putting on decals on the fuselage when the tow bar was being hooked up to tow it out on the grounds. The 456th reunion was first class so we had filet mignon instead of Menudo, we can have that anytime. The old sarge made another fantastic clock, so now I sit here as chief of the daggers--too. Our next project will be a marine A4M in august and the F 15 will be here in September. Right now I put myself on light duty to recover from the DART bite that I got for spending too much on the DEUCE. The stitches came out today and it is healing well. Pat has posted some good pictures, and I will try to send you one of my good ones. Ralph

I'll bet that Al Durden knows and since he visits here pretty often, I'll bet he can answer your question. You out there Dirty? Also, please give us an update on the grand opening of the new building and the status of the F-106 paint job. Pat Perry 456th FIS 66-68

The Aerospace Museum of California, 3200 Freedom Park Drive, McClellan, Ca. 95652. In the 70's it was E Street at Price Avenue. The Grand Opening of the Museum and the Unveiling of F-106A 59-0010 to the public will be held on Feb. 2, 2007. 010 will be on display in all its Glory in the new Hardie Setzer Pavilion. The restoration team led by Dick Stultz [ TAZ ] did a spectacular job in the Resurrection. Check the post above for the link to 6 shooter 1's website to see the latest restoration photos. Hooray, Home at last, Home to stay, Forever and a day.

California Aviation and Aerospace Museum just had our One Year anniversary of the Grand Opening. Despite near-freezing rain & drizzle the facility was SWAMPED with visitors that were enjoying free admission. It's a special place crammed with a fine array of artifacts that just keeps growing and growing. I'm proud to volunteer there.
"Our Mighty Delta is a major-general cherry!"
Come visit as soon as possible!
