We are getting ready to leave next week on a 2 month road trip. I have looked up (6) sixes on display that we will probably pass close to. I would like to look up the one or ones that allow best access to plane. I'm hoping that y'all can help me figure that out. Does anyone know if you are allowed access to cockpit on any of them? The locations that we will be close to are: Kelly AFB, TX--Hollomam AFB, NM--Pima Air & Space Museum, AZ--Edwards, AFB, CA--Hill AFB, UT--Minot AFB, ND. Any info would be most appreciated. Thanx....

Norm, 003 is at Pima, but it may be be into rehab by now.....Possibly you could prevail on them to let you take a look at it.....If you haven't seen one since you departed Loring, try to see it.. Also, don't miss the museum if you can help it...The diorama of the B-17 raids over Germany and the 8th BmbWg and the 357th BmbGrp is worth the time- PLUS out in the open are ALL the Fighter Interceptors From ADC.......You are younger than I, but they do have a trolly that goes around the grounds........Also, the cleanliness of the hangars will remind you of our PE hangar at Loring--every Fri PM-clean sweep fore and aft. I believe Hill's bird is outside.....Anybody got clear and consice info-it will be PAT PERRY.........ENJOY YOUR TRIP AND BE SURE TO REGALE US WITH THE HIGHLIGHTS OF IT.......Jim Gier

Well I do hope to see you when you get near Kelly! The "B" model is on a stick out side of the old NCO club, on the OLD Kelly AFB side of what is now Lackland AFB. The area the "B" models is located in, is under control of the Greater KELLYUSA Industrial park. you can enter the area from the General Hudnell exit off of US 90 WEST out of downtown San Antonio. OR, you can just go east on Highway 90 from Military highway and Lackland AFB and enter on the (I think!) 30th street exit. Its just even with the San Antonio minor league baseball park, "Wolfe Stadium". Be sure and see the "B-58" Hustler outside of the old main gate entrance to Kelly, now the main entrance to KELLYUSA. Its one of only perhaps 5 or so airframes left! I would be honored to accompany you when you get here and share some time with you and your family! Feel free to give me a call when you get here. I'm listed in the phone book. I'll send you and e-mail later with my personal info! As far as I know, the Hill AFB "6" is on display in a hangar. I do believe the cockpit would be available for viewing, but I do not know what is left inside. Check with the museum staff when you get there. See ya in San Antonio! MArv

Hi Norm, The F-106s at Kelly and Minot are mounted on posts so I doubt cockpit access is a possibility.
Hill has their six indoors - Tom Hill or Glen Noorda can tell you whether a cockpit check is possible. Scott Marchand at Pima could possibly get you into the restoration hangar to look at their six. Tell these guys I said to look them up - never hurts to ask.
My best guess is that if you could swing by Castle Air Museum in Atwater, CA The Chief of the Darts (Ralph Robledo) might be sweet-talked into giving you a special tour of his beautiful F-106 which has one of the nicest cockpits of all display sixes. He'll probably also show you the F-100 they are restoring right now.
Enjoy your trip and like the Old Sarge says, be ready to report your findings with words and pictures. Pat Perry

:-XWell Guys, just a note to let you all know that the F100C is back together in the Castle Air Museum Restoration Hanger. We transported the pieces from San Jose on the 4th of August, and installed the Aft Section on the 1st of September-yesterday! It is complete, including the engine. So now the fine tuning begins. The canopy has been opened, and work has begun on the restoration of the cockpit. To Norm and others, you are always welcome at the CAM. You want to see the SIX. Stop by , give me a call , and I will give you a private tour, including the cockpit. Just let me know that Pat Perry sent you. The F100 is going to be a good looking aircraft, just like the others, but this one really has potential. The airframe is in good shape, considering it sat at the San Jose Airport since 1972. Ralph
