:fire_missle_ani :confused Seem to remember, We used to load from the rear? and i never saw a blue belly band, only white or orange? I was loading from 64 to 67> but after they put the LORAN antenna in, there were a few permanent parts in guys hair.

Blue belly bands or blue plug plates indicated inert loads---- I think!!! The Old Sarge

:2thumbsup Initially the Genie trainers were all white, looked just like the real thing. Next step was the orange rocket motor and spotting charge plug covers. And finally some standardization on training items and the blue motor and plug covers.

we cud be talking different sop's at different times. definitely remember that during 64 thru 67 at McGuire the white ones were totally capable of poofing visitors from the east.
Any MB-1 guys want to chime in?

When I posted that the dummy's were initially all white I'm talking late 50's early 60's. There was a lot of confusion between the dummy's and live rounds especially when the dummy's were loaded on the F-89 and photographed, it looked like they were carrying live rounds. To the best of my knowledge live rounds were not ROUTINELY flown on the '89, '101 or '106. I remember that the '106 had some very specific tactical ferry procedures for the live Genie.

Point well taken. I dont recall ever seeing a 6 fly with even a DUMMY. with the exception of a scramble. We did a turnaround by loading all the weapons while being checked for safety, procedure and time. AFTER THe RELOAD AND REFUEL, they'd shut down the engine and we'd unload. Sometimes it got very interesting as I was also on the quick fix crew and wud have to run from the bay to the ball room under the cockpit to repair and/or replace something, and lift the access door while it was buttoned up. Hectic but memorable. I guess you could say they were sort of practice ORI's!!

just found some addt'l info on the lump. I guess there were different reg's possibly for different aircraft. One article said that the blue belly bad indicated a practice round, totally inoperable. The pic shows the orange eyes and belly band.

: Let's try a final clarification on MB-1T/ATR-2N paint jobs. No different paint for different a/c, :nono no different regs for different a/c. :nono The different paint jobs that are seen are dependent on the year the pictures were taken. Early, all white- Middle, orange- Last, Blue. As for which direction were the rockets loaded, F-101 in from the left side, 106 from the tail. :2thumbsup

During Cuban Crisis Scrambled 10 with full loads to Terra Haute IN . 58-767 landed long off the end of runway, collapsed nosegear and bent the nose up forward of the nosegear. When the doors were opened everthing was still in it's proper place. A nose section was taken from 796 and installed.

I remember getting a load order to deliver 8 weapons to the 11th FIS Alert Barns during the Cuban Crisis. "There's already 8 there". "JUST DELIVER 8 TO THE BARNS"!!!!!!! We did as directed and there were 8 empty MF-9 trailers and 8 new tail numbers. Never new for sure where the 6's went only that it was South and don't know if the MB-1 racks were in the tactical ferry configuration or ready for launch. Off shoot to that incident resulted in a TCTO to replace all the rocket motor nozzle weather seals. Seems that at altitude the change in pressure blew some of the seals out.
