Here's the latest information: As of Jan 5, 2011 we have $2078.00 in actual cash sent in all from the local area. There is many more others pledged that we are adding up. There is $1500.00 pledged on this forum. The media blitz seems to have woken some of the ex-Air Force people here and that makes me cautiously optimistic. There is a new web site for the museum. It is www.Kishamuseum.org If anyone would like to donate you can send it to: KIS Heritage Air Museum 500 South 3rd St Marquette, MI 49855 The biggest problem remains to be securing a building. More on that as we go along. We still have the family that will donate $5000.00 if we raise $10000.00. Lee

I feel that the U.S. Government when they selected to close these bases should have set aside a building on each base for saving its history and artifacts if people were willing and able to do so. Its just a damn shame.

More on that as we go along. We still have the family that will donate $5000.00 if we raise $10000.00. Lee Swapped emails with Lee Nellist - here's an update: "Pat, Dead of winter here. The airplanes are buried [snowbound]. As far as I know we have gotten between $6,000 & $7,000 at this point. We have secured a grant from both the electric and gas company so the storage of the artifacts are protected with utilities. The big problem that we have is a building to put the museum in. The storage site is not our building and the developer wants big bucks for it. The county has offered a couple of buildings that are possibilities but we have to be very careful because the west end of the county gets real upset if they feel the county is helping us more than them. When we put a 40 ft gate in the fence to be able to tow airplanes back and forth from a hangar the county helped us monetarily but the west end got all bent out of shape. So we are currently in a holding pattern to see what develops between now and spring both money wise and building wise. At least we are a little better off than when we started. Our local community fund gave us a small grant to get a new web site up and running. I sit on the board but had to abstain from the votes because of my involvement but was able to put my two cents in... we'll see what happens. Lee" Am sending my donation in today. Got this e-mail from Bob Vick who is the president of the Museum.
"Last night the museum board voted to try for a May 1st opening with the intent right now to remain open through October 1st. Hopefully, during this time we will be able to resolve some issues with funding support which will enable us to keep it open. We want very much to do this as we feel the museum can become an integral part of the community of K.I. Sawyer.
If you can, help us to achieve that goal and we can all profit.
I will try to keep you all apprised of our progress."
I add my thanks to all of you who helped. This is some hopeful news.

Very pleased to hear that. I'm a member of the McChord Air Museum and donate each year to it, along with the USO, and Disabled Veterans. Going to send you a few bucks out Monday. "Just a few as my wife is having surgery soon." :salute & :thanks for the efforts of all involved to save this valuable history.
