I searched Thread titles for the word UFO to find a place to put this National Geographic article.
We have several Threads in 3 different categories about UFOs but I decided on this one in recognition of some of our Forum Members who have passed since 2010 [RIP].
How the Pentagon learned to start worrying and investigate UFOs
Excerpt: "U.S. national security officials today delivered a report to Congress about investigations into a series of unidentified flying object sightings, a landmark sign that this previously fringe topic has gained mainstream acceptance. And while the report, produced by the office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), does provide some new information about the inexplicable occurrences, it leaves many of the biggest questions unanswered. But no one in the intelligence community uses the term UFO anymore. The new moniker is Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon, or UAP—a name change meant to signal that the U.S. government is taking the mysterious sightings seriously."I think it's interesting that UAPs have gained new interest after the Project Blue Book era ended. With advanced electronic/digital technology it seems prudent to discover whether these sightings come from man made sources testing them for warfare. Or atmospheric conditions or thousands of pieces of space junk in decaying orbits. Pat P.

On a flight over Germany in the back seat of an OV-10A Bronco a UFO passed us. This was about 1980. I saw it in the distance and had my camera ready, so as it passed maybe 300 yards away I got this picture. Shaped like a 4 leef clover, no wings, engine, or windows. When I asked the pilot if he saw it he said , "Yes and we will never talk about it" so I did not mention to him I got a photo of it. More to this story and many other stories with pictures in my copyrighted book. Interested in it just message me.
Gary, the picture you shot and your description reminded me of the SAAB 37 Viggen and it's later sister the SAAB JAS 39 Gripen. Both could have been painted black in test versions for daylight test high visibility or night tests for low visibility.

Looking like a "4 leaf clover" made me think of these two aircraft with delta wings and large canards on the nose.
Thanks for sharing!
