Dover's F-106A still needs some TLC.

Hey Bullhunter -- Did the museum staff change the wording on the "Six" sign to read "ONE AIR2A "instead of TWO? ?? :scratch_head : I pointed that out to the director back in 2008! I guess no one noticed it before! HAve a green one for me! :green-beer MArv :patriotic-flagwaver :green-beer :salute

I didn't notice that. I just noticed the chipped and pealing paint on the nose dome again. They have completed the KC-135 paint job. Looks good. Their F-101 looks the same as last year also.

The AMC Museum does not respect the Fighters ( F-106----F-101) like they do the Tankers and Transports. They have hardly any displays dedicated to the ADC Fighter History at Dover. Wish the museum would have more respect, for one reason the museum is located on the site of the ADC Interceptor Flightline and Hanger. There was alot of history there! Was there myself! Mrbones

Dover museum has a F-106A, F-101, and a T-33. The T-33 is out front and looks pretty good. They recently painted the KC-135 and the Connie aircraft. I was the Admistrator/Director for the McChord Air Museum (1992-1995). The base only gave the museum $1,200 per year to operate. After cleaning supplies, toilet pater, and the like usually not much left. Most work was done by volunteers and monies raised by foundation members and volunteers. I think the museums do the best they can for all the aircraft. Having been involved with a museum and its civilian foundation I know abit about what goes on. There were times when some of our display aircraft needed TLC but had to wait for donations to build up and volunteers to gather and make plans. I did my best to move projects along by scrounging around shops on base for assistance. Mrbones, don't be to harsh on the AMC museum. I'm just glad some base have museums. :fire_missle_ani

Well, Mr Bones show the extent of your pride by becoming a member. I was somewhat perturbed to see the MAC markings on the T33 and the six a little shabby too. It is/was a MAC base after all and I guess they are entitled.

The Dover F-106 & T-33 should have ADC markings as they were assigned at Dover in a FIS. History should not be revised. It is fairly easy to get Command Decals. Example: While I was at the McChord Air Museum our paint shop found a box in an out of the way location. It had a dozen or more SAC decals. I took possession of the decals and logged them into the master USAF Museum Inventory. This allows any USAF Base Museum to find things on this master inventory list and request items needed to complete an aircraft Restoration or repaint. Really no reason to mark an ADC aircraft with MAC markings. Sounds abit like laziness.
Here is a pic of the old ADC Alert Barns at Dover taken 2 1/2 weeks ago.

My two older granddaughters infront of Dovers B-17. Everytime we visit they love going to the museum with grandpa & grandma. This year we had a 3rd granddaughter with us only 3 1/2 months old. "Life is good"

someone should get on the dover museums butt right now...thats( t 33) a piece of history being distorted!! Negative on history being distorted................ Unless you can trace the lineage of this particular bird, it could well be that it realy did belong to the Military Airl Transport Service (MATS) and been used as an intra command courier for parts, for desk jockies to stay current for flight pay purposes, etc, as it had to be a hell of a lot cheaper to operate than the Sabreliner... The Old Sarge From the log page for 52 - 09497 :NOTE: The AMC Museum's T-33 was stationed at Dover and used by MATS Pilots for proficiency. The T-33 in front of the American Legion on US 113 was stationed at Dover.

You're right, of course, Jim. Though I wonder what sort of parts of a size would fit in a baggage pod. Desk jockeys did, however, need to punch holes occasionally. I'd forgotten about the Legion's T-33. Can't remember the markings on it. Guess my comments came from a feeling that the markings should match the maintainers. But that has not proven to be the case.
