I have a nice monitor and it did not come with a monitor. Heck, I have not even opened up the box. I might decide not to keep it.
\Family bullshit starting again. Got a nasty call from our younger son. The one who was assaulted. He has just blown it with us..

I don't think I am alone on this, as I have seen some blurbs on some sites about it, but no answers.
I am running Firefox as my primary system.
Until recently it had been doing well.
However, of late it has had many crashes, always at inappropriate times, has been running slow, and I need to do a restart one or two times a day.
I have seen these issues on a couple of computer sites, but no answers.
O.K., all you computer wizards, have those of you running FF had similar problems?
If so, what, if anything, have you done to correct them?
Have you tried other operating systems, like Chrome?
I don't want to go back to the Microsoft mess, and have liked FF, until recently, so any help is appreciated.
A somewhat frustrated Jim Too.

Have you checked for malware or spyware problems? They can really slow things down and cause all kinds of problems. Malware bytes and super antispyware are good programs and can be had free at ninite.

Malwarebytes Free is pretty good, but if you can find a copy of the paid Lifetime Updates edition (they're phasing it out in favor of annual subscriptions, but will still honor the already-offered lifetime licenses) it's even better. Automatic updates, scheduled scans... worth the $30 at Newegg.

It is only when using Firefox that I am having problems.
I also have McAfee Suite, which is part of the AT&T package, which has a malware program.
I also use IObit Malware Fighter, Jet Clean Registry Cleaner and IObit Advance System Care.
All of these, according to all I have read, are compatible to each other and to FF.
So, the question is still: anyone having problems with Firefox?

Jim,
You didn't say what operating system that you are using or what version of FireFox, but for your reference, I am using Windows7 and FireFox ver. 32 with no problems.

I am using Windows 8.1, which is also a problem, and Firefox was updated yester-day to the latest version.
I wonder if it is just a problem with the FF compatibility to W8.1?
I hope when MS brings out W9, or whatever they will call it, that they have some deals for those of us who are not happy with W8.1.
My wife has a W7 desktop, running FF with no problems.
So, must be a W8.1 problem.
Oh, well!
I guess I will just have to continue to restart and still get the FF window telling me they have crashed.

Jim, I have been using IE 11 since I started using Win 8 and Win 8.1 upgrade. It has worked excellently. You should have IE 11 on your machine already, if not, download it and install it. You can import your favorites over from FF and get started. There are some minor differences in how IE 11 works compared to FF but it is short term learning.

Oh, and beware that those UK and European websites are bad about loading you up with cookies and adware. I use Norton 360 Anti-virus program and it flushes out adware, cookies and malware you may have picked up. It works well with Win 8.

I guess you didn't put FF on your W-8.1 Laptop.
I think you are probably right and I am going to dump FF.
It works great on the W7 desktop, but has problems with the laptop.
I don't download any sites, that I know of, that are not American.
I agree, the Europeans and others, like to load a lot of stuff along with their programs.
One has to read every window that pops up when downloading, as every site, no matter where they are, is trying to get you to accept something more.
That is fine, but you have to opt out with most of them.
Ended up having to eliminate some things when I didn't read everything.
Computers?
Love them or not, we are dependent on them.
Well, at least until the government puts them under their complete control.
Then all of us will be restricted.

Microsoft offers first look at new Windows -- and gives it a name
www.chicagotribune.com/bluesky/technology/sns-rt-us-microsoft-windows-20140926-story.html
Excerpts: By Bill Rigby, Reuters This article is related to: Satya Nadella, Microsoft Windows September 26, 2014, 6:08 AM
Microsoft Corp will unveil a new name for its best-known product on Tuesday when it offers the first official glimpse of its latest Windows operating system.
The project, known for the past few years as "Threshold" inside the software company and "Windows 9" outside it, will likely get an entirely new brand, or just be called Windows, analysts said, ahead of its full release early next year.
The name change is symbolic of a new direction and style for Microsoft, which is veering away from an aggressive focus on Windows and PCs, the hallmark of previous Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer. The new, quieter emphasis is on selling services across all devices and is championed by new boss Satya Nadella.
The switch also represents a desire to erase the ill will generated by Windows 8, an ambitious attempt to redesign Windows with tablet users in mind, which ended up annoying and confusing the core market of customers who use mice and keyboards.

The more I read, the more I wonder if Microsoft will, as the author of the article aludes, become just another service company, mainly interested in selling programs and services, with computer systems as a sideline.
If so, they will lose even more people.
Why should the average home user buy an office program, when Open Office and a couple others are available, and are free?
Time will tell, but W-8 is not the greatest thing they ever came up with.
I guess the "tiles" are fine for some Tablets, but just don't do it on a desktop or laptop.
Depending on cost, I may switch to W-9, or whatever they end up calling it.
My thinking is they should just reissue W-XL or W-7, with a few updates.

Win7 is STILL a surprisingly strong seller, despite Ballmer's attempts to ram 8 up our collective recta--even a few of the big-name big-boxers have gone back to it, not just the boutiques like where I bought mine.
When HP tells Micro$haft to eff themselves by refusing to go All Win8 All The Time, that says there's a BIG problem out there...

Windows 7 Home will be subscription based starting Nov 1st. It looks like Microsoft is tired of all the complaints about Windows 8 and is going to demand that people use the system they want to sell, not what people want.
I wonder, will this will lead to an early release of Windows 10?
Unless, and until, someone comes up with a viable alternative to Windows or Apple systems, we are stuck with what they want to sell us for our large computers.
If you want to use a table, then Android, in its latest version, can be much better than Windows or Apple.
However, it is not easy to do a lot of writing and some other things on a tablet, at least the present ones.
So, if you want to do some serious things, you need a desktop or a real laptop.
I can't imagine Diamondback doing all the things he does on a Tablet of Smart Phone.
I just hope Windows 10 is as good as it is said to be, and it is inexpensive to download as a W-8 replacement.
