Recently had my computer's power supply fail. Had it replaced and while I was adjusting my system after I got it home I did something. My current issue is on all forum's and pages some of the features are no longer there. 1. One this page there are no dividing lines and the whole page background is white. 2. The F-106 background art is missing on the opening pages. I have this issue where ever I go on the net. Facebook, etc, etc. Any ideas or computer wisdom out there? Additional info: I was in Control Pannel. Display window Apperence window Color Scheme. (changed something in here I thing. Current settings are: Windows & Buttons = Windows Classic Style Color Scheme = Windows Standard Font Size = Normal My Op System is Win XP.

Thanks a bounch for the advice. I think I'm going to save whats left I want or need to one of my thumb drives. Then I think I'll clean out the unit and do a reformat. It's been several years since I've done one so it is over due anyway. Anything messed up should correct itself on reinstall of XP. If not then the power failure damaged something else. Sounds card works good so only vid card left. If problem in IE then the reinstall should solve everything. System has also slowed quite a bit. Does that sound like a good plan? :confused

Have any of you used, or are using Apple Safari on your PC?
Now that Apple is making it available for PC users, I wonder if it is worth the effort, or just another browser to clutter up things.

Off line video and pictures look good.
Looked for that safety tab and can't locate it.
Thanks Duy.

OK Make sure top banner reads: "MSN.com Windows Internet Explorer". On the upper right (just above the main window) select "page", select "style", select "default style". That should fix it. Luck, Jim

I would blame the TECH? myself after after my bout with the GEEK SQUAD and the battle to do warranty work on a month old HP that took a crap.......... Send the thing all the way to someplace in Calif to change a burned out power supply - after they charged me 165 to backup and reformat, which they never did.................... If you can't watch them, no telling what happens.....................

Spec's:
ASUS 865 P4 800FSB Intel P4 3.2 GHz PC 3200 DDR 3 gig AOpen Aeolus GF6800 GT DV258
Built Feb 2005
Right now I guess I'll complain to the computer place that fixed it and then let this ride until after my heart angioplasy next Monday.
Note: Just talked to the computer shop and they said bring it in and they will look at it with on charge. "I got a name that said that!"

Bull: Might try what I suggested. Was able to duplicate the problem you describe and correct it by selecting " no style" and correct it by reselecting "default style" as I described. Make sure you in windows explorer first though.

Took my system back to the shop this morning. Had them put power to it and right off the get-go the side fan started making a ticking sound. The technician pulled the side pannel and a wire bundle was hitting the fan. His comment was, "He should have tied that up after changing the power supply." I then hung around abit and he powered up another computer and we looked at it while I was explaning to him on that screen and then looked at mine to see the difference. With the side pannel off I pointed out all the dust and lint balls and told him I asked that the system be dusted and cleaned when the power supply was changed. I then mentioned that in early 2009 when it was in their shop for a virus or slow operation I requested the same. I pointed out all the dust on the fans and suggested the power supply failed becaused the system was not cleaned then either. I had the workorder copy from 2009 and also the one from last week and told him I specifically told the girl I wanted the unit dusted and cleaned and both work order copies did not have that on them. They are being very nice as they seem to know I'm correct and the paperwork shows it. Wonder how soon I will get it back? Glad I got my wife a new computer for Christmas. I still have access.

Well, Just got word from the computer shop that my hard drive is going out. Its making loud clicking sounds. I believe this might be the reason for the slowness and the many times it freezes up. Because of the problems they are willing to refund the money I paid for the first repair of the power supply. They will keep the power supply and not chare me for this check. They suggest I replace the system because of the burnt power supply and the failing hard drive. There might be other issues yet not discovered. The system is over 5 years old and I had it built for me. This time I'll get a brand name. All suggestions and advice on a new computer pick is welcome.
Thanks.

Can't say as I disagree with Duy.
However, if money is an issue, then Microsoft is the only other option.
I own a Toshiba Satellite lap top, running Vista.
I did a lot of research and decided on the Toshiba for a couple reasons.
Most testing outfits showed it to be a good, solid workhorse. It has good memory, and is easy to add memory, big enough hard drive and a good CD/DVD burner. It is a bit slower than some of the others, and came with a lot of bloatware. I got one with a 17 inch monitor, with a separate numeric key pad. It is really a desk top replacement unit. I got mine at the Randolph BX two years ago. The new ones come with Widows 7 and other upgrades.
If you are looking for a desk top.
Costco has two HPs with monitors that are well equipped. One is $1200 and the other is $1000. Both have 1TB hard drive and 25" monitor.
Happy shopping, Gary.
Just don't buy one at Walmart or get a Gateway. They are currently rated as expensive paper weights.

I don't know about Gateway being a paper weight, mine is 2 years old and as long as you don't expect it to be a desktop, it is great......... The new stuff comes with windows 7 which, I have been told has all the good features of 95-98, XP and what good ones are in Vista........... Just be adaptable and don't expect anyone of them to handle old programs.......... The Old Sarge

Gary, when it come time to transfer your information to your new system try to keep you old hard drive a cool as possible. I have taken them out of the case and placed them on those freezer bags you can use in coolers along with a desk fan blowing directly on it.
One time the hard drive was really acting up and they had pictures they wanted me to try and retrieve, so I took the hard drive out and placed it in the freezer for a day, then hooked it up to the system like I described above and was able to retrieve their pictures. When the hard drive finally failed it did it big time.
I have an HP I got at Best Buy 2 years ago an it is running fine, Has Vista on it and knock on wood I haven't had any problems with it. I also run a 1 1/2 TB external hard drive to keep my music, pictures, Videos and documents on. This way if the internal hard drive fails I don't have a lot of files to transfer. My wife and I have Lenovo Laptops (IBM) with XP Pro and they run great.

Thanks for all the advice. Its a bit to think over. This has been an awesome weekend so far. Granddaughter born yesterday. Named Bailey, she is 6 '9". We celebrated our 27 wedding anniversary last night at a party and spent the night in the Silverdale Beach Resort and I won the grand prize. Another Dinner, free night, & breckfest. I shopped some today at COSTCO, STABLES, & OFFICE DEPOT. Staples customer service still stinks. After waiting around I left. Stopped at the Navy Military Exchange Store and checked out a few systems. I told the computer tech rep that I was a gamer and took lots of pictures. He showed me two systems and I took the HP, HPE 210f PC Has: AMD Phenom II 945 QUAD-CORE 1 Terabyte HD ATI Radeon HD 5450 512MB DDR3 dicated cboard memory DVI, HDMI, Blu-ray Then on the way home we stopped in Port Ludlow to watch the Battle Of Port Ludlow which is a Civil War reinactment. Lots of fun with cannon fire, musket shootings, drums & bugles. Post photos later. I'm not much of a lap top fan. Wife and I never want to take a computer with us on trips either. Let me know what you all think. I'm leaving it in the box till Tuesday. Monday morning is my heart angioplasty. The Navy Exchange said I have 14 days to return it with no questions asked.

Gary, it sounds like a pretty good unit.
Of course, HP, like everyone else, includes $2.97 worth of keyboard and mouse.
Do you already have a wireless keyboard and mouse?
What about your monitor?
Keeping your old one, or getting a 25" HP?
Will pray for things to go well at the hospital next week.
