Ralph Robledo and the guys at CAM Restoration have finished the T-39 Sabreliner restoration and are moving it to the display area. - Pat P. Click on the picture to see the slide show Ralph wrote: May 13, 2010 Hi Pat , Here are a few pictures of the T-39 that we placed on the grounds yesterday. I also saved the old sign that used to be at the Main Gate of the Base. The lower right section had to be replaced, repainted, and re-lettered. We also saved the 93rd Bomb Wing Insignia that used to be near the old gas station and Parade ground. The County wanted to destroy it ,so we saved it and placed it near the SR-71. We also placed a MIG-17 on display. It is next to the F-111. I have two weeks to finish the F-15 Model, and by then it will be open cockpit day. Enjoy the pictures. Ralph Robledo

Gorgeous work on the T-39! I'm interested to know the story behind the markings, especially the "5" with the arrow. Commander's aircraft? I really need to get out there some time and see that place.

In 1959, whilst at The SCAB, North American brought in a T-39 that was touring bases that had F-86D/L aircraft.
As I recall it had North American pilots. The bird did have AF markings. It was parked in the 13th FIS area and we all got a good look at it. We noted the very similar wings, but were told they were not the same, just looked it.
I was impressed with the bird then and wonder why the AF didn't buy more and keep them going longer.
The one Ralph has at Castle really looks great, just like new.
Good job, Ralph and crew. Jim Too

She sure is purty! One of the first "space-A" flights I ever took was on a T-39 from Kirtland AFB, NM to Norton AFB, CA back in 1981 when I was a Civil Air Patrol cadet. Made me think of the T-39 we have on display at Dyess. Here are a couple shots I took a couple weeks ago of her. Mark

A work of art, Ralph. Have sent copies to a former flying crew chief for Chappie James.

I once had a ride in one of those back in 67 from dickie goober to selfridge. It was an emergency leave that was handled by the squadron commander when my grandfather was dying.

Rode in one from KI Sawyer to Peterson Field in the early '70s. We plowed snow all the way to the active and the field was closed when we broke ground.
