:us_flag :salute :patriotic-flagwaver To-day, 15 May 2010, is Armed Forces Day. To all my fellow Patriots, I :salute you for your service to our Republic. Please remember to give thanks for all who have served in the Armed Forces of our Republic, past and present. Without our Armed Forces who knows what our nation would be. Please pray for those currently serving, in particular those who are in the Middle East and West Asia, and others who are in Harm's Way every day. Pray the President, the Congress, DOD, and the courts would do all they can to support our Armed Forces. Pray that the People of our Republic would fully support our Armed Forces and demand the government support them to the fullest. Jim Too :god_bless_usa

Hey guys. I just wanted to say my own thank you to YOU ALL on this Armed Forces Day. My real first memories of this day was when I was a teenager in the late 1970s/early 1980s. The middle of May was usually the highlight of the year for me as we would make our trek to Fairchild AFB for the open house, and I knew I would get to see some F-106s!! That was the highlight. Just being able to experience the military life visiting FAFB was such a positive experience. You all made that possible.
So here I am today, an active duty USAF MSgt, a whole bunch of US Army time under my belt (and a bunch of beers over my belt!), and a military ID card in my wallet for over 27 years. I owe a bunch of that to those Armed Forces Day open houses I went to as a kid.
Thank YOU!!
Most importantly, THANK YOU ALL for welcoming me for over 10 years as part of our family on this forum. I'm proud to be a part of it.
Mark

Mark The Pleasure is really all ours Mark, we are the ones that owe you for stepping into our shoes and picking up where we left off, whether it was after 4 or 20 years or more even if you did jump out of good and still flying A/C.......... I did 24 years and my last 3 were at the McChord Air Museum. Just prior to that I worked Maintenance Supervision as a Production Superintendent (Mike-3). I had an Escort securty badge and several times I'd take my daugher to work with me for a few hours at night or weekend. She picked up a liking for the activity and looks out on the flightline. I worked an airshow one weekend and got the OK for my daughter to ride with me in my (Mike-3) Supervision pick-up truck. She was out on the ramp with me and not behind the rope stuck in the crowd. Right out of high school she enlisted in the USAF. When I asked her why she wanted to do that she reminded me of the times I took her out on the flightline. She said, " The sights, sounds, smells, and the activity was something you could not get anyplace else! It was not boring!" Mark, I understand fully what you are talking about. I recall my first air show with my Dad and that is how my book starts out.
Speeking of my Dad. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. He used to come out and go hunting & salmon fishing with me each year. With my escort badge I took him out on the flightline a few times also. One evening on nightshift the engine shop was doing a power run-up on a C-141B so I asked the engine operator if my Dad and i could sit in on the run and observe. Was not a problem as I knew most all the engine troops. My Dad had a thrill watching it all from the back of the flightdeck. One of the airman gave him a headset so he could listen to all the com traffic.
Many flightline experances you will never forget.
