Hey all,
I just got an e-mail from Ernie White at McChord and they are preparing to repaint the Six at McChord. No worries, it'll still be in 318th colors! It just needs a fresh coat!
One of the things Ernie asked me was if I had a close-up of the paint job of the canopy rail with the pilot's name from the early '80s. He wants to get the color and font correct. I don't have a good photo myself, so I thought I'd ask here. Can anyone help? A shot of the nose gear door would help too. If anyone has any good photos can you please shoot them my way? I'd sure appreciate it, and I know Ernie would too.
Many thanks,
Mark

Thanks for the pub Mark !
Another group of pictures I'm looking for is pictures of stenciling on the fuselage, weapons bay etc. - Much of the stenciling was lost after 459 was "taken" and repainted by the 25th AD in the late 80's.
Unfortunately, we are unable to get a copy of the external marking section of the -4 that spells out all of the Sixes stenciling - lucky, I was able to take some great pictures of -0454 during her drone days at Holloman a bunch of years ago, but I'm having trouble making out some of the verbiage of the stenciling, or in some cases some of the stenciling is missing from her all together. Using multiple pictures, T.O.'s, etc, I have a good deal of the stenciling figured out, but we would like to get as much stenciling as possible.
If anyone has any pictures where stenciling can be seen on any part of the aircraft (any unit), pictures of 318th birds in the late 70's early 80's (ADC), or if you know where we can get a copy of the 1F-106A-4 please forward your pictures to me at sixfixer@yahoo.com.
Thanks All - - I'll keep you all informed on the project!
Ernie

I just found this photo of my son at the cockpit of F-106A. This was in 1977 or early 1978

Oh boy! That's great! I just sent it off to Ernie. If I had to guess, that's got to be correct for the time period he is looking for the re-paint.
Thanks!
Mark
If anyone has more, please post them!!

I haven't been down to the base in a month. It could be completed by now and back on display. Might check their museum webpage.

Sorry for not posting on updates on our Six projects, but our plans are to roll 459 out of paint on to the flight line for the upcoming Air Show at McChord next weekend (17-18 July).
This hasn't been the best experience that I've had concerning our Museum painting projects (see my rant on the "Dart gone...." post) but she did need a new coat of paint.
We kind of started off on the wrong foot from the jump. Plans were to paint our F-106 & F-15 next year, but our paint shop had a seemingly large window in their schedule were they could fit our aircraft in (A large number of the Bases C-17's are busy supporting many efforts around the world).
We had to quickly work on some of the issues with 459 and at the same time, pull data together to help the paint shop paint the aircraft - accurately. Unfortunately, for many reasons, the end product was not what we hoped for.
There are more than a few errors - on both aircraft - which happens, but in this case, the reasons behind the errors is my biggest issue! So I guess what I'm saying is - -Its not our fault ! : ) - - I'm very sure I'll get into it as I post pictures and venting along the way !
I'll be posting some pictures here and on our Museum website ( mcchordairmuseum.org ) of both paint projects over the next few weeks.
