How about this old Gooney? ? Neat! That old Gooney was (some still are) like a Swiss Army Knife - good for many diverse situations. Pat P.

And when did you say the "Skunk Works" really got started? I used to ride with some desk pilots getting their time in a Gooney out of Kadena in 1962-63. Once we flew an engine for a broke Gooney to Ie Shima (the small island off Okinawa where Ernie Pyle was killed). There were cliffs at both ends of the runway. When we took off I had a sharp feeling of need for something like these floats since the AC dipped when we departed over the cliff's edge. Quite an aircraft the C-47.
