When did the usaf do away with AFM66-1. FMS,OMS,MMS and A&E sqdns? : :scratch_head

I want to say it was the early 90's. The same time they put maintenance under the flying squadron commander.
They renamed all the regs also. OI, operating instruction, and MOI, maint operating instructions.
They also renumbered the maintenance AFSC's. Crew Chiefs went from 431x1 to 2A3x3 to 452x. I lived it and am still confused. :scratch_head

AFM 66-1 was replaced by AFI 21-101 around 1991 when the Objective Wing Structure was introduced. This was where flightline maintenance again became the responsibility of the individual flying squadron commander and ultimately the operations group commander, while backshop maintenance squadrons fell under the direction of the logistics group commander.
This marked yet another about face between centralized and decentralized control of maintenance.

This marked yet another about face between centralized and decentralized control of maintenance. :thanks for the reminder O Master O the Web! I was drawing a blank on the AFI number yesterday. Like it or not, the system did work. You needed two key ingredients though, a strong commander and a strong production staff. I saw it work in PACAF, AETC, and USAFE.
