For all y'all who forgot, to-day is Texas Independence Day. On this day in 1836 Texas gained it's independence from Mexico and became the Republic of Texas. The Texas Declaration of Independence was signed at Washington on the Brazos. David G. Burnet became the interim president and Sam Houston became the first elected President of the Republic of Texas in September 1836. Because Texas later came in to the Union as a Republic, it is the only state where the state flag is allowed to fly at the same height as the National Standard. www.associatedcontent.com/article/862813/texas_flag_etiquette.html?cat=47Don't mess with Texas. Jim Too I'm not from Texas, but I got here as quick as I could. :god_bless_usa
