Wow. Amazing. Maybe he can sell it to the Russians. Heard they were looking for a new one.

The National Museum of the Pacific War: Admiral Nimitz Museum, in Fredericksburg, Texas, has a 15 foot model of the USS Nimitz (CVN-68). If y'all are ever in the area, the museum is well worth the the trip. It has some WW2 airplanes, and lots of other things about the War in the Pacific. www.nimitz-museum.org/Fredericksburg is North of San Antonio and West of Austin, in the beautiful Hill Country of Texas. If you come in March or April, the Bluebonnets and other wild flowers are usually in bloom. Jim Too :god_bless_usa

I was in the Naval Jr. ROTC when the USS Nimitz was commissioned. I didn't get to go, but our class was represented there.

well..as one that was raised a navy brat...and worked in the defence marine industry....I can attest to his accuracy..however at the time of this model's construction the A6 intruders were all reef material ...2006 didn't have any....oh wait...I take that back..he's said he has it in the 1989 config....so...he's pretty accurate then...nice to see the Ardvarks embarked on board...!! one problem also there as I see it...it's one big target!!....
being a bubble head...(aka submariner by trade)...we see things like the Enterprise and think about breaching it's outer defencive parimeter and sinking the capital ship.... the amazing thing about Enterprise is it has 8 Reactors...they run 4 at a time....keep the other 4 in reserve..then after so many hrs..the ships company will switch to the other 4 reactor plants...they are relatively small reactors and only put out about 45 megwatts of pwr....newer nimitz class reactors are about 90mw's of output pwr...plus the steam generators to produce pwr for the cat's....it's an amazing machine... The Air and Space museum in DC has a model just like this one..
Pretty cool...

Seems to me that with all the pointy things sitting on it, it would have a pretty big, and dangerous defensive perimeter!

with all the different components (to include subs) i heard that it was about a 300 mile perimeter... but thats not to include all the airborne warning systems...

actually a battle group can monitor the sea area of about half the size of the US.....if needed...they will spread the screening ships out and the area they monitor is quite impressive...between surface and submarine assets...it would be extremely tough to get close to a carrier....one amazing note( learned this during an overhaul of a spruance class destroyer)...the carrier battle group can assume control of the weapons on any ship in the group and deploy them as required.....the deploying ship can either fire thier weapons or let the battle group do it....quite amazing if you think about it..
