This is pretty cool. Yes, it's a SAC thing, but it's a Convair Delta too! Worth the time. This is the first part of three, each about 10 minutes long. You can get to parts two and three after each segment. (The sound is very scratchy, but you don't even notice it after a bit.)
Neat old film!

Boy that brought back some memories. My home town was 20 miles from Bunker Hill (Grissom) which had a wing of '58s. As a kid in the '60s I used to enjoy riding by the base on US31 and seeing the '58s sitting in their alert hangars. The hangars were in pods of four and each was positioned to line up pretty straight with the runway. Only minor correction needed to get on the take off roll. Once in awhile my Dad and I would drive down and just sit off the base and watch em come in and out. I remember one evening about dusk we saw a a four ship scramble. They took off in pairs and actually hit burners while they were still in the barn!

Hmmm... probably don't get too many girlscouts coming round to sell cookies at your place. I mentioned my home town was only 20 miles from Grissom. So it wasn't unusual that some of the officers living off base took up quarters in town. There was one pilot that would always buzz the town at about 500 ft on his way back to base. Guess it was his way of saying, "Honey I'm home." This was in the '60s when you could get away with doing stuff like that.
