I was assigned as the assist shop supervisor (Circa 1986). At that time I believe I was a MSgt or had a line #. We had this SSgt that was married to a girl that would come into the shop and argue with him a few times a month. In time I figured they would work out their problems so I did not get involved or ask her to leave. We all gave them space. On day the SSgt came to me and asked if I could do him a favor. Well, I figured I'd be getting involved now. So I asked, "What can I do for you?" He answered, "Can you sign another supply slip so I can get a new field jacket?" I responed, "What the heck happened to the new field jacket you were issued two weeks ago?" He then held up his jacket and said, "THIS!" It was sliced up and you could see through it. I asked, "What the hell happed to it?" He replied, "My wife got mad and sliced it up." Not knowing what to say, I laughed and said, "Damn good thing you were not in it!" I gave him a slip for a new field jacket. He and his wife did work out their problems. Guess all it took was cutting up his military jacket.

And thus was born the expression, "She tore him a new one."
