As I have been thinking about the events at Fort Hood, the war in Southwest Asia and the time I spent in the Air Force, I find I have a greater appreciation for our Forum and the members.
I have met only a handful of you, yet I feel I have known all of you quite well, for a long-time.
We have common bonds.
We share our love for the Six, the Air Force, our Republic, our God and each other.
We are a special group of people.
We answered the call to Protect and Preserve our Republic and it's Constitution.
We have been In Harm's Way, and survived.
We are Warriors.
We are Patriots.
We are all Air Force, all the time.
We don't always agree.
We don't all vote the same, go to the same church, like the same things to eat, the same movies or TV shows. We live in different parts of the country. Some in small towns, some in big cities. We are all different in the way we look and talk.
However, we are the same.
We share a love for our Republic. We share a love for each other.
I give my thanks and my love to each one of you. We are brothers and sisters. We are one.
My thanks and my love to each one of you this Veteran's Day.
May God richly bless you.
Jim Scanlon

Well said Jim, and thank you. I must admit when I started this forum years ago I never dreamed it would turn into the meeting place it has for so many.
It's Nov 10th here in Korea now, tomorrow is Veterans Day for us here. :god_bless_usa and you all :salute

Well said. A special aircraft deserves special people. The only thing that makes me prouder than to have served is seeing my son in uniform. If there's a silver lining to what we have been doing since 9/11, it's the fact that a new generation of patriots have stood up and are smartly carrying on. :us_flag

"It is, in a way, an odd thing to honor those who died in defense of our country ... in wars far away. The imagination plays a trick. We see these soldiers in our mind as old and wise. We see them as something like the Founding Fathers, grave and gray-haired. But most of them were boys when they died, and they gave up two lives -- the one they were living and the one they would have lived. When they died, they gave up their chance to be husbands and fathers and grandfathers. They gave up their chance to be revered old men. They gave up everything for their country, for us. All we can do is remember." --Ronald Reagan

This afternoon my bride and I drove to our local Applebee's. We expected a crowd and were not disappointed. There were a lot of Patriots, men and women, waiting for their name to be called and be seated. It was a different crowd. Lots of gray hair, of there was any hair. Some with canes or limps. There were lots of hats, Air Force, Navy, Army, Marines and Coast Guard. There were some from every war since World War Two. The young men with their young brides and little ones, the old ones from the BIG War. I heard no cursing, no complaining, no talking about how long it was taking. I did, however, hear a lot of laughing and happy chatter. I even saw one older couple invite a younger couple to join them at the same booth and not have to wait so long. I spent a couple of hours with brothers and sisters. Fellow Patriots. American fighting men and women and their families. I was blessed to be in their presence. The staff of the restaurant was very busy, every table was continually full. The staff was smiling. They were chatting. They were hustling. Our meal didn't take much longer to get than usual and it was great. We even decided to have dessert. Our thanks to the Applebee's company and their honoring all veterans on this Veteran's Day. Yes, I did write to Applebee's to thank them. I wrote as soon as I got home. I hope your meal at Applebee's was as pleasant an experience as our was. Jim Too

My wife had several doctors appointments today and our plan was to meet at Applebee's about 4:15PM. She arrived first and there were on spots to park in within the whole parking lot. She has a bad knee and ankle from a broken leg and ankle so can't walk far. She even has a state handicap parking permit. I received a cell phone call before I reached Applebee's from her saying she was now going to Red Lobster. So we missed out on eating with fellow veterans and having two free meals as we are both veterans. I should have anticapted this with two big Naval Bases close and a very large retired military population. Had my wife not had the medical appoints we would have went to the Applebees in Sequim 25 minutes west; instead of 20 minutes east near the military bases. :cry
