ok...one story here that anyone that's been to Hamilton AFB will get...others...maybe not.. :fire_missle_ani
you guys remember the Security Police Augmentee program??ok..true story....and I got in alot of trouble with this one...back in the early 70's...I was stationed at hamilton afb...my first pcs...after some training classes and a bunch of other schools...I got selected to work NORS control for the main supply...then I got selected to participate in the Security police augmentee program...meaning if we went to war...and all the cops on base followed our aircraft to theater...we would be the ones assigned to stand gate guard or ramp guard...patrol the base ...etc..... well..for a bit the news was really talking about the israeli war that was going on..rumors were going crazy at the base...people were getting things ready to deploy.....we thought we were going to war....one nite some idiot decided to pull an alert....it was midnite and I ran to CSC...central security control where we were all pilled into a room...and sat for about an hr...of course we're talking and saying to each other...I think we're going to war!!..no way...really???..etc....so...our anxiety was sky high..... well..just then a Tech Sgt came in and said...line up....you grab a radio...you grab a weapon....you grab a radio..you grab a weapon...on down the line until we each had one or the other....I .....had the weapon...(lucky me)....we get piled into trucks and off we go....it's now about 2am or so.....the truck I'm on takes us out to the runup pads and beyond....me??...I can't get a cushy post, I get the last one out on the d i k e one side facing the Richmond Refinery while to my back is the base..which all those base lights now look miles away... now..it's about sept....oct time frame....2:30am...I've had very little sleep (partying too much)....who'da thunk that California could get this friggin cold!!!....when out of the corner of my eye I see this figure rising up out of the shore line..starting to walk towards me....now...I'm scared....cold....tired...and all I'm thinking is I can't believe this SH#t..... I draw my M16...(which I made expert in the range with it)....then I yell "HALT ,HALT,HALT" as loud and as fast as I can..then I fired one round in the air....I saw two hands go straight up....so..I yelled ...Next one's on you!!...... the person yells don't shoot!!.....I, in turn yell....hit the dirt!!!...about then every friggin red light on the planet went on....I'd never seen so many cop trucks and lights in my life!!!.... I walked up to this clown and said...you move...you die...where's your id!!....well...it turns out to be some leutenant assigned to infiltrate the base parimeter and tag one of the airplanes bombed or booby trapped.........his id had a gorilla picture on it...... when everyone showed up....they had to hold that poor B3stard back..he wanted to kill me....I got taken back to CSC and debriefed....then went to courts martial and charges were dismissed....I explained the situation ...and the command was at fault for not telling us it's a drill....for me carrying out my duties a bit aggressively but I did do my job.....I got taken off SP aug. duty and never had to pull that duty again.......
boy...was that LT mad... ;D....wonder if he ever got over it??...

I was at Griffiss AFB, NY at the time of the Israeli war. The base went to full alert. Every B-52 was loaded with Nuke Weapons except one as it was missing a few jet engines that we did not have. (SAC) was primed and ready to fly. The whole aircraft ramp was a no-loan-zone. I'm sure the 49th FIS was also geared up and sitting alerts. We had two SR-71 Blackbirds flying out daily keeping an eye on the war and the USSR. I do not think my flightline jet engine shop had any technicians on SP Augmentee. I do believe the main jet engine overhaul shop did. Aircrews were sleeping in buses next to the aircraft, each aircraft had a SP Guard at the nose and tail of each aircraft. We were advised the SP's were authorized the use of deadly force. It was put to us that F'ing around could get you killed. Our maintenance vans were positioned on the flightline and other technicians were sleep in the shop chairs or on the floor. This all was some very serious $hit. We had the shop chief tell us that if the Bombers & tankers took off that it would be all over. Griffiss was surely on the target list. We should go home snuggle up to our wifes and girlfriends and kiss our asses good-bye.
Steve, you did exactly what you were suppose to do. They should have given you an award and a 3 day pass for the next month. :yellow-beer

Well... cobwebs cleared again for a moment. We had augmentees at Duluth in the '60s/ One night one of them was amusing himself by drawing a bead on the AGE tow tractor driver as he drove by a post ay the corner of the alert barns. When we notified the CSC, they asked us to drive by again when they got in a position to observe. We did and the clown drew his bead again. The cops promptly drove up to the post, properly identified themselves, relieved the guy, snatched the weapon away from him laid him out on the ground (Duluth in winter, brrrr, lucky he didn't stick there 'til spring), thoROUGHly searched him and hauled him off to ? Bet he didn't have to pull guard duty again. He was lucky. The guy driving the tractor had a really hot temper and was going to kick the augie doggie's butt and could have done so.
